Default Tow Mode - Suburban

The tow mode on my 2008 Suburban no longer works. The indicator light on the dash does not come on when I press the button nor does the transmission go to tow mode.

Any ideas on where to start looking?

Thanks

Common problem, if you open the steering column you'll see wires going to a small black box and 99% of the time the wires are cracked/broken in the box or insulation leading to it. This happened on almost every single GM truck I've seen or friends have owned etc. If you search the GM forums or online you should be able to find how to fix it.

Thanks. I imagine GM will say it is electrical and not part of the 100,000 mile drive train warranty. Sounds like a do it yourself pain in the azz job.

I would ask them is if it is covered. It might also be a fuse.

If you search online you'll see it has something to do with the way the wires are ran and the telescoping column, seems to pinch and pull/tension the wires and they crack or strip eventually. Not kidding, seen this on so many GM trucks, from ones we owned to friends etc.

GM Engineering right there

Sounds like pizz poor design/engineering. Will talk to my dealer this week and see if they are willing to do anything.

I'll let you know what they say.

Thanks,

True, could be a fuse like soldier mentioned above, check to see before you take it in, never know. If not, 99.9% sure it's what I explained. I'd be very surprised if it was something else, as you can search online and fine a ton of reported issues with this.
