Ford diesel 6.4 vs 6.7 ??

Ya, I know the history but I'm still skeptical..........I need to see a few years of 7.3 or 5.9 Cummins type reliability before I'm convinced. Not even sure that is possible with these emmisions era diesel engines? Believe me I'm a Ford guy..........I've had nothing but Ford trucks since '86. For my money I'll buy a $20 - $25k clean 6.0 truck and spend $7k doing all the "fixes" until I see if the the 6.7 proves itself. Then I'll buy a nice used 2011 6.7 sometime around 2015

my 2010 f-250 has been running good so far...bought it used last spring (14k)...runs smooth,and not as hard on fuel as the earlier version...been told the 2010 is the best version of the 6.4l

If I had the money I woud go 6.7. Then again the 6.7 is a new ford design, who knows whats going to happen. International made descent engines. Between three trucks my buddies and I had they were all 6.4l. We had combined around 200k miles with no issues.

The newest thing know is to convert your problem 6.4 to a cummins.There is a conversion kit out and cummins engines are easily had due to the dodge trucks bieng the week link.
Ford with a cummins is the best of all set ups. My buddy is duing this conversion right now.
That $8000 for a pump, you could have got a reman cummins 24valve (around 5k) 12 valves even cheaper and a conversion kit (2k).

I have an '08 F250 6.4 and absolutely love it. I have around 90k on it. I had the radiator replaced due to the thermostats hyperextending and allowing increased pressure. I pull my boat and stock trailer frequently as well as hauling farm equipment...No issues. You can buy aftermarket pumps for less than 8000 dollars. Pulling expensive horses like you do I dont think you would want a crossbreed truck, (cummins in a Ford). Dont get me wrong cummins is a fantastic engine but will not compete with 6.4 for power, at least not stock. If you pay attentiont to any of the new tests done on these trucks the new fords and dodges that is dodge doesnt come close to Ford and Chevy. Any of the new "emissions" trucks have issues. Again, I dont wish to bash any brands I am just saying that for all the money you could spend making swaps and all you could simply modify your 6.4 and have an incredible truck.

that might be the case...but there is nothing to perfect.. Ford sued International who made the motors. Fords new 6.7 is all designed by them. These motors are awesome. Both my 11's have been flawless, the 250 delivery truck has over 100k on her...and the mileage improvement of 3+ mpg vs the 6.4 that she replaced has helped immensly in saving me money with these fuel prices. The other savings is the oil change intervals. What I like depending on how hard you work these trucks, you can check on the dash computor certain specs...if the truck hauls all the time like our 250, the oil change intervals are 5500-6000 miles vs my personal 350 which tows an occasional 14k and 10k trailers, goes to around 6500-6700 miles. Yes the oil changes are more due to def fluid, but intervals are longer, mileage is better, and these new trucks are much nicer to drive. Jeff

Why not just get a new truck. I would like to see somebody sell an F250 to me and be like by the way it has some hodge podge cummins installed in it.

6.7 550 and 450 have a different turbo. single stage with a gate on those models. I have seen very few failures with them. like Pat said above. the 6.4 can be a mess. you just have to keep on your oil and find a dealer that wont care if you delete the dpf and get rid of that awful regen. like me. If you loose a HP pump (mostly early 08 models) and you have a dpf delete i wont give you any chit. But if you melt piston and the oil is so far overgrown that it comes out the side vent at the badge on the passenger side due to it blowing by and getting in the intake. well, ford is gonna come take pictures and you better have service records in hand.
