I would have said the 7.3..the later years..but now with over a 100k on a 6.7..I prefer this motor. Quietier, way more power and Torque, and the fuel mileage is excellent.

Even with the Tantrum, full tank of gas (truck and boat), 4 people, trailer and gear, the 1500 can feel the load a good bit.. I've found a few 7.3's I'm going to look into.

Another vote for a 7.3. My 2000 F350 has 215k on it. Couldn't be happier with the performance and such low maintenance.

It just starting to leave a quarter sized spot of oil in the driveway. Needs turbo pedastal seals, and after reading this.... a cps in the glove box

Don't be intimidated by the rod material change in the 7.3 after 2000. Everyone brings this up, but I've not heard of, nor has anyone been able to document any failures of the rods in a 2001-2003.
And yes, the Walmart greeters are gone, but the 7.3 isn't ancient history, at least not yet. I'm not made of money either, and a new truck at $60K isn't even remotely in my future. I only use my 7.3 equipped diesel for towing and, it doesn't see winter, and will continue on for some time to come. They are extremely reliable.

Is it a pain in the butt to have to deal with the DEF fillups?
