The Vortex max truck is a 1500 series truck with the 6.0 engine and a bunch of towing options. That was the biggest of the 1500 series trucks and was meant for heavier towing. You will be fine. Those trucks do love to eat gas though. Jeff Wurl

my tandem axle steel trailer for my 29 fountain weighs around 25oolbs cant imagine that trailer is any less somebody just put less weight on the title to escape the tax man at the DMV. I would have it weighed and when you register it get it correct, not something that I ever seen get looked at but get into a wreck or that one THAT GUY for a cop and youll be into a ticket. For the truck you should be fine, I would think that boat and trailer is in the 9500-10k range with everything. I tow my 29 with twins with a F150 and it does fine although I have a 11,300 towing capcity. So its not going to be something to throw 6 guys in the trucks with tons of gear.

The thing with our boats we are just on the Cusp of capacity but with proper care in loading you will be fine, I would avoid diesels at all cost, although that 6.0l gasser is not going to be any kinder at the pump then a diesel.

My understanding is the 1/2 ton "HD" trick had 8 lugs if it really is a 3/4 ton diff. That was one of those "best in class" deals where GM was pushing numbers for class bragging rights.

The 6.0L can do it OK with 4:10 gears. If the wheels are 6 lug I would stay conscious of those limits.

Oh and don't be afraid of diesel. I just went from ATL GA to Lincoln Ne and only stopped twice for fuel; I've never had a gasser do that well. The diesel per gallon cost was more but I bought a LOT less diesel than I would have gas which resulted in cheaper total fuel cost for the trip.

I pull a 30' Cat (Dry 6200lb), 120 gal fuel on a steel Heritage trailer (brakes on all 3 axles)
behind a 2007 Vortec Max Crew Cab 4x4 without any problems. Only gets about 10-12 mpg doing it but pulls and stops fine.

The heavy half tons labeled 1500HD I think 2000-06 were upgraded to 8 lug, then GM came out with the Vortec Max package, it does have 6 lug wheels 6.0 and I am not 100% sure on the 07-current they could have 4.10 rears, I know I shopped a 06 b4 I bought mine and it had 373 rears. I didn't buy it because it was black, nowadays I kinda wish i did with the 303, it would be just the extra I need. I'm also pretty sure the Vrtec Max package has bigger brakes but not 100% on that

Check the thread at the top of the page in this section for actual tow capacities.

The truck is definately not the same as 2500HD. The boat and trailer will probably weigh in between 8 and 9k full of gear and fuel.

Been looking at these trucks and they are rated for the 10,700 lbs of towing.

In 2007-2008, this was labeled as the "Vortec Max" package and came with the 6.0 Liter, 4.10 rear, heavier suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, and the 4 speed auto.

In 2009, it was changed to the "Max Towing" option and they swapped it out for the 6.2 motor, which is the same motor as Denali and Escalade. It's mated to a 6 speed tranny, and 3.73's... Same suspension and brakes.

The 6 speed version would be my choice, just because it's a little better on fuel plus the 6.2 is 403 hp vs. 367. It's also over 400 lbs of torque.
