40% of the F150 go off the lot with EcoBoost power. 11,300 pound tow rating with 4:10 gears. Best in class so far...

That turbo replacement cost seems out of line. I can get a new turbo for my powerstroke which is a vgt turbo for $800 all day.

as of March I beleive it was 48% and climbing. Also the gearing to get 11,300 is 3.73 as far as I know they dont offer it with 4.10s that would kill the mpg and really be to much for this truck. I dont think you can get 4.10s in a 3/4 ton even i might be wrong.

The design life of the turbos are 150,000 miles. I've heard prices from $2500 up to $4000 per turbo, any one able to verify this? 15K miles a year average means it would be a 10 year old truck- seems like $5000-$8000 would be quite a larger percentage of its value at that time, no?

The turbos are better than I thought looks to be about 800 bucks for the right hand side and 700 for the left hand side. Assuming labor your probably talking 2500-3 grand to replace them both assuming its just the turbo. But you are right at 150k miles you have look at the value of a vehicle that is probably 8-10 years old and at that point probably worth 10 grand on a good day.

When most vehicles don't even need a tune up other then oil and air filter changes why not? It's nice when you are not paying loan interest, no matter how low it is.

I am old enought to remember when most people DIDN'T keep them after 100k becuase they would be unreliable or rusted away, not any more.

studies show that people keep their vehicles closer to 10 years, which I wouldnt disagree that people are keeping them longer, but I wonder if young people and people closer to poverty bring that number up, I would like to see the sample group they used. Because at least the people I know and from the cars I see on the road the average is closer to 5-6 years.

I think cars are a lot more reliable these days and to get over 100k isnt something crazy. But to that beyond an oil change most vehicles these days are about impossible to repair in your driveway. And its not for everybody to be in and out of cars, but like I said I keep enough equity going that my payment never gets much above 300 bucks a month. And for me at least its easier to have a planned 300 bucks a month vs dropping 800 bucks, 2000 bucks on a whim or unscheduled. Just tires alone are over 1000 bucks and thats over 3 months of payment on my schedule. I also see it as a time factor, it takes time to drop the vehicle off and pick it up, also when my truck is in the shop i have to figure out rides and takes away from boating, which means an expensive toy sits, plus I cant go to home depot and pick stuff up do landscaping if needed and general utility work. I know some people cant get away from 5-$600 a month payments but those people at times have to have platinum edition or just get to deep into cars. IMVHO I dont think shelling out that much money a month for a vehicle is wise decsion either.

EcoBoost F150 this year:

Supercab must have 4:10s to get 11,300 tow rating.
Supercrew (4-door) 11,100 tow rating with 3:73 or 4:10 gearing.

I get over 20 m.p.g. on the highway with 4:10s in my Ranger 4.0 with a .75 overdrive (5-speed auto). I believe the F150 EcoBoost uses less fuel than the Ranger. Speeds above 60 m.p.h. lower mileage but I have a Corvette for going fast.

Your info looks fairly correct.

My 2012 is rated at 11,200 w/ 3:73 gears (I have the max tow). I lost 100 lbs of rating due to the 6.5' bed I ordered. I'll figure out a way to work around it. ;)

3.73s in a supercab which I have gets you 11,300 in the standard box but thats an 11, the long box will give you 11,100 and the super crew will get you 11,200 in the standard box and 11,100 in the long box. it looks as if both gearing will give you those numbers. But either way you need the max trailering not the tow package to get those numbers otherwise you fall in the low 10k range to high 9k range.

Eitherway I mean I need the truck to get good MPG going faster 60 and 4.10s seems a bit over board for the truck.

I got "the boost" about a month ago and have towed my 34 Powerquest Vyper a few times. She pulls it like a diesel. I have the max tow package, supercab, 11300 lbs. I towed my boat back from the marina in that 60 mph winds a few days ago, little swaying but pulled her like a champ.

So are you saying GM won't replace the rings and pistons on some of the 5.3s? Our local dealer made us do an oil consumption test which we passed. I took a video of the Suburban starting and all the blue smoke out the tailpipe to show them. They had new pistons and rings approved by the time I showed up to the dealer.
