i wouldnt be towing a 31 with one of these old monsters if I were you. But for what you want to do right now, it will be fine. I dont know what your budget is, but that old that many miles, its asking for more problems then what I would want to deal with.

To me that's like the Rhode Island seatbelt law. Everyone has to wear one, you can get pulled over and given a ticket if your not, but no helmet required if your on a motorcycle!
Good luck in your search
I know, it makes no sense....
Anyway, found a '95 with around 190k miles....might go have a look already has the tow hitch...found a bunch more on CL last night.

Had a 94 1/2 ton 4 wd. Traded it for a few hundred dollars worth of painting with 194k on it. Great truck, drove it everywhere. Got up to 16 ish on the highway.

now have two others. 99 half ton four by with 122k on it. More power than the 94 and better milage also by a bit. Have towed the 272 locally and it does fine for what it is. Added a forth row seat so it seats 11 people.

Have a 04 2500 4x with the 8.1L and that thing rocks. Gets up to 14 on the highway cruising and pulls the rated 10,000 lbs easily. Pulled the 272 home and forgot it was back there. Also converted with a forth row seat so it holds 12 people!

Need another one so I have a daily driver, going to look at a 2001 2500 with 6 liter at 140k miles. Cheap at 6500 if it checks out. Wife drives the 99' the 8.1 sits in storage with the camper and boat, so I want one now

You really can't go wrong with a burb. They are tanks and would take a pre airbag one over a newer "safe" car with bags any day. You should be able to get a decent one in the 2-3k range. Just be patient. Oh, and go with a 2500 if serious about a 31.

Brian...get the 6.0 2500 for sure. I have the LQ9 6.0 in my Escalade and love it. It is stronger than a 8.1 2500 Suburban that I had and does a great job with the 255 (7500# tow). The 6.0 moves this 6000# ESV around like a Muscle car.

Not the same engine you are getting in the Suburban. The Caddy motor only came in the Vortec Max line up which wasn't offered in the Suburban.

I was wondering if they were different. Mine is older and I thought the newer ones were stronger with the variable valve timing. Still, the 2001 3/4 ton will pull the 272 easily.
