Default Class 8 r/v and trailer registration???

I'm currently towing with a F350 with D plates and a TG(20k) on the trailer. $420 a year just in plates. I've been wanting to restore an old W900A and register it as an rv which isnt an issue. Question being, can i put a ST plate on the trailer even though the truck wont have a weight plate or keep the TG to cover the trailer??? And if anyone else is doing this, how bad is the insurance? I can't imagine it would be too bad being noncommercial and liability coverage?

Thanks

Many different laws state to state. You will have to dig a little deeper, probably with the Illinois State Police.
