From what I can find online it's forged from the factory.
I wasnt going planning on running more than 5 or 6psi anyways. As long as the blower doesn't have Teflon coated rotors...would I be able to use a meth injection kit to drop intake temps? |
Have a 2000 Classic K2500 (OBS) with a Vortec 454 , there is nothing out there unless you come across something used.
I found a Whipple on Racing Junk .com but when I called Whipple they said they don't service those anymore Figure I will get a crate 502 and have the local tuners tune and I am sure I will need bigger injectors , already have headers on truck I have a second set of Edelbrock headers and y pipe if interested , you would need to have the headers Jet Hot coated Also have a K&N cold air kit in box |

The one I saw on their site would work for the standard 6rib setups, but they can custom make just about anything as well. Motor is in a 1980 chev 4x4 with no EFI so I wouldn't have to worry about finding a shop with laptop tuning services (which is harder to find for 2000 and older around here) although im sure I'd have to either get another matching carb for a 6-71, or step up to something like a 770cfm truck avenger for the smaller single carb blowers. Unfortunately the harsh truth is that a 6L LQ4 for 500 bucks, cheap L92 heads/intake, headers and a cam would prut me at the same power level and have a TON more support for aftermarket goodies.... Now I has a sad :( :( :( |
I have a 95 Suburban with the 454 TBI, that I have a Whipple on. This may work for what you want because the Throttle Body bolts to the back of the blower and your Carb may be able to do the same. Plus my kit will be up for sale in about a month..... im going ahead with an lq4 swap and putting twin snails to it lol. Here's a pic of the engine now....

https://fbcdn-photos-a.akamaihd.net/..._1815782_n.jpg Mount a card so it's sitting vertically would very likely be a bad idea...and/or a fire hazard :s |
Heads have nothing to do with the whipple setup it has a mounting plate above intake mani, i would fab a mount for the carb so it sits proper. Obviously a float wouldnt work on its side. There is a slight angle on the tbi now that could be increased to make something work. All custom, cmon bolt ons are for little boys.

So square port head vs small oval and the 8:1 vs 9:1 compression doesn't matter either?
Pro tip: When trying to convince someone to possibly buy an item from you, insulting them generally doesn't go over all that well. Thanks, but no thanks.... |
A little touchy about the joke about bolt ons. There was no convincing, like I thought I was going to put a hard sale on you because I desperately needed to sell something that is still on my ride working fine?? Lol
Fyi no it doesn't, but would one prove better results than another possible... Despite what books and peoples opinions say, lower compression is great but only if you have a big enough blower to fill up the bores. The low compression was school of thought back in the day. Now it is more of size the blower/turbo whatever to the engine you have. If you have high compression, you shouldnt run high boost but you also will produce as much as a lower compression with higher boost. Plus cams mean more, overlap should be shrunken down because the air from the charger is already there. Good luck with your build but you already said the answer earlier.... lq4, lq9, lsx, l92, l9h... etc would be more powerful, more efficient and easy to mod than trying to go old school hot rod. |
