I purchased my metallic black, automatic 2012 Ford 4x4 Dually Extend Cap with the 8 foot bed and 6.7 diesel in April of last year. I have only towed my 15,000 lbs boat and trailer 200 miles. It towed it great, better than my previous Dodge. My ford truck has 28,000 miles on it, where 90% of them are highway traveling to work. My engine blew up yesterday, May 14, 2013. I started the truck, drove it for about a mile before I hit the highway. I gave it a little gas (NOT HAMMERED) to merge into traffic and BANG. I looked in my mirror and saw rubber and metal pieces flying all over the place. The engine stopped and I coasted to a halt. Not knowing what happened, I tried to start my FORD and the engine was locked up. I looked under my truck and there it was, oil pooring all over the concrete. WTF. The truck is under warranty and will be for sale after I get a new engine. Anyone interested? I have a custom stereo and a grill guard. I am going back to a Dodge and getting the Cummings again with the manual 6 speed. That is what I had before, but it got destroyed in a wreck. Great Truck.
This is funny He indicates that he hates this truck and has no faith in it so when he gets it fixed he is selling it. Then the next thing “Anyone interested?” LOL |
UPDATE ON MY BLOWN ENGINE: Just talked to the FORD dealership on my engine that blew up. My CRANKSHAFT BROKE. I am getting a new LONG BLOCK; nevertheless, I don't know when I am getting the truck back yet. I wonder if the crankshaft was made in China. Are all crankshafts forged? Maybe not. Anyway.....there you have it. KAAABOOOM!!!!! I will soon have a very nice FORD for sale with a NEW ENGINE. Can't beat that.:angry-smiley-044:

If i had the extra money laying around i wouldn't hesitate to buy it. It's not like a hidden electrical problem that only shows its face once in a while, fix it and it'll be just fine

See I dont get where the anti 6.4 comes from. 6.0 i can see it but i had a 6.4 and two buddies had/have a 6.4 with no issues minus blowing some turbo boots, which whatever thats like a clogged air filter as far issues go.
Sometimes I wonder if the 6.4 carried some of the negativity over from the 6.0. Either way there are urban legends out there on any motor or brand. What it comes down to is, there lemons in every batch made. Guys that blow engines often times are over loading their trailers and drive like a race car, and more times than not there was some tune or mod added that isnt mentioned or is whispered under somebodys breath. I got out of diesel because I can do what I need to do with a 1/2 ton, but was looking at the 6.7 and I was skeptical on an engine that was just dropped out of the sky by ford only a year or two ago. |

I also own a cranked up 6.6L Dmax which I've blown 3 times, 1 crankshaft, 2 pistons. Someone wanna loan me their Cummins for a couple months..lol A little FYI for the NEW Dodge and GM lovers out there. My Dmax techie friend has replaced 2 "exploded" CP4 pumps on 2012 or newer models under warranty so far. Since Bosch requires a complete fuel system replacement after the pump failure, that's an easy 7-9k bill if your buying...GM, Dodge, and Ford all use a variant of the new Bosch CP4.. So place your bets.. -K |
Got rid of my 2011 6.7 Ford at 52,000 miles. 2 water pumps, $1,600 radiator, turbo hose that blew itself apart, and an EGT sensor that shut the truck down. I wasn't impressed with the "fix" for the 6.4 and 6.0
Now I have a Sport Chassis with a 8.3 Cummins and Allison tranny, problem solved. |

Pops has one too...in the shop 6 or 7 times a year for reasons other than maintenance. He's going Dodge next. If you have more money than brains buy a Ford or Chevy Diesel...otherwise Dodge is the best bet.....How many commercial trucks do you see running a v8 diesel......

I really want to know when someone comes out with a truck that has ZERO problems. Around here the 6.7s have been performing VERY well. Oil field work puts them to the test. Sure there have been a few failures, there will NEVER be a manufacturer that does NOT have failures. Sorry yours went down.

My buddies 2012 ford 3500 blew up after 50,000 as well. But he had a chip on it but it still blew up just like yours. But it don't matter what brand there all mechanical machine that all breack. I have a 2007 dodge 3500 with the 5.9 Cummings and that thing blew up as well. Injector failed

My brother's 2012 6.7 broke a crank when he started it in his garage, oil and parts everywhere. But Ford really took care of it, fixed the floor in the garage (epoxy-looks great) and the truck has been great ever since. I have Cummins, but I really like his Ford. Could happen to any brand, what I look at is how the company handles the problem. But I also understand how you could get a little uneasy about keeping it long term.
