What is this noise? Torque Converter?

I neglected my work truck and ran it a little low on transmission fluid. When I was coming home yesterday, it stalled on me twice right before I pulled in my driveway and when I pulled the dipstick I had some smoke coming out of the dipstick. Obviously the fluid was brown (once I got enough new fluid in for it to show up on the dipstick). My guess is I smoked the torque converter and that's why it kept stalling on me.

Truck is an 89 Chevy with a 305 and a 700r4 transmission.

Or is that just a coincidence and I've got a lifter knock in addition to the trans? The trans does seem like it's fine now that it has fluid in it.

The oil pressure gauge has been finicky lately as well, but I let the damn thing run with the gauge on 0 for about 2 minutes to see if it would lock up and it just kept chugging along, give it a little throttle and the gauge will pop back up.

Worst case I'll just keep using it until something gives up, and then pull the good parts and scrap the rest.

That does not sound like the noise/tick of a bad lifter.

between the tick and the squeek it sounds like a broken flywheel... their are lot of moving parts sot it could be anything in the trans...

Unhooked the torque converter from the engine, still squeaks and knocks. Pulled off the serpentine belt too, so the only thing moving is the engine, and it still squeaks and knocks. So looking for a junkyard engine. This engine is pretty fried, and the oil pressure is still acting up on the gauge. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it has.

Pulled the motor and did the root cause today. Number 4 rod bearing spun, and spun, and spun, and spun. I bought this truck probably 8 years ago, I knew the engine was fried then, never thought it would last as long as it did. It did make a last trip to the landfill about 20 miles each way, knocking the whole way. It was funny to see people's reaction when I would drive by.
