Mythbusters did an episode on this several years ago, and there was a thread that followed here on OSO with a ton of "expert" opinion.
Reality: One romp on the GO pedal from a stoplight will negate the fuel savings over the distance of a tankful IRT this topic; and let's face it... we are the type that uses two feet on the RIGHT pedal!
