Reading a review it sounded like a 2500 only option but I could be wrong. It was a $5k option in 2003 but dropped to $2k in 2004. Cuts the turning radius from 44" to 35"which would be huge for me. The boat review said it was also great for needing to make a 90deg turn as the rear wheels act similar to a forklift in getting the trailer tongue to move quick.
I'll have to look if it was available for an 8.1. Sure would be nice over the city block it takes to turn my long bed, 4dr F350 (rated worst radius out of any of them). Notice the fender clearance lights and clearance light on the roof; akin to a dually; as set by US Federal width laws. Buddy has a Silverado 1500HD with it. Local pizza delivery guy has a Silverado Extended Cab which is a stripped version of the Sierra Denali pickup which had QuatraSteer as well. A Denali version of the Yukon XL 2500 would be the cats-ass. I think they were rated to tow 9000 or 10,000 lbs. The Excursion will not turn much better than your F-350 with since the leaf springs limit the front tire swing and turning radius. |

My buddy just bought a Excursion Powerstroke for $2800......truck has satellite tv/ 5 TV's and was a soccer mom vehicle. Truck needed nothing but it does have 230K on the clock.....cold a/c, recent Michelins and all the TVs work! Good service history, lady traded it for a new Mercedes SUV.

Quadrasteer was not available w/ 8.1, but not necessary IMO.
With 8.1, pretty sure 3.73 is 10k towing, 17k GCWR and 4.10 is 12k towing, 19k GCWR if that matters to you. I think the Yukon XL 2500 tows pretty well, figure 10-12 everyday and 6-8 towing in the real world and it is a great daily driver. It is way, way easier to maneuver than a CC long bed, with and without the trailer. I know this from personal experience, I daily drove my XL 2500 and liked everything about it except the defroster sucked and so did the fuel bill. It's an absolute beast in the snow, if you can see through the ice on the windshield. I had no major problems in 100,000 miles other than typical GM electrical BS. I would look for an 05 or 06 w/ 4.10's from down south if buying another. |

1500 Anything GM: Coil-spring rear suspension. REALLY BAD for towing. Until last year we owned a 2003 2500 Suburban with the 6.0/3.73 4x4 and towed a 31 Formula fastech for a couple years. It was fine but all I wanted to tow with that truck. (bought a 382 and towed once/twice with it and immediately bought a dually). I agree with what has been said, the 2500 is much improved over the 1500 and you want the 8.1. The gas mileage difference is actually 1 mpg or less but it has 95 ft/lbs more torque. (We got 12-13 mpg mixed driving in "suburbia" and 9-10 towing that 312).

I don't think any Excursions have coil front suspension. They did get the updated headlights, grill and front bumper for 2005, but not the suspension or dash updates.

this addy is over 2 months old....also when looking at the yukon xl pay attension the the drivers seat,,you will seee on alot of them that gm used cheap leather and they ware real quick and crack.. t he 5.4 3 valve motors have broken spark plug issues,,meaning they brake off in the cylinder head when you go to remove them.. yes quad steer was a option one year,,think it was 2003 or 04.. |
