I've tried to flag people down on the highway when I see that issue. I don't think I've ever succeeded in making them stop. I just hammer it and get way the hell in front of them.

I've never "tested" it, but there are videos of such on YouTube. It works well. As long as I take the time to put the cap and pins on the Guardian, I've also latched down the coupler.

I had my Cafe pop off the ball in the Farm Fresh parking lot last summer. I had noticed it didn't "feel right" when I locked it down and low and behold it popped off (Im still not really sure how it happened). Luckily the Farm Fresh was in front of the Advance Auto I frequent so I walked in there, they gave me a brand new jack and told me I could just open the box and use it all I needed to. Got it back up and on pretty quickly, but I was taking up more than my allotted share of the Farm Fresh LOT....

Oh - then another time we were hauling Logging Mats home on my father's wellcraft trailer for a project my brother was doing. We estimated they were about 1500lbs each and they were actually about 2500 a piece. This guy pulled up beside me in a lexus coupe (one of the convertible SC 430's) and told me my "wheel was missing". I blew him off as some Yuppie who couldn't tell a flat tire from a screwdriver, but I pulled over and he was right - the wheel was gone. Lugs and all!!

OMG, I can't help but LMAO from some of these stories!! Not really "funny" at the time but dang, I thought my axle story was bad!!

I friend of mine forgot to lock and pin his coupler several years ago. Hit a bumpy stretch of road and the trailer bounced off the ball while going 60 plus mph. Now the problem was the road was a two lane black top. So when the trailer hit the pavement it want to stop NOW. His Searay 230 launched off the trailer and down a 30' embankment. Fortunately not a lot of damage. Broke the windshield and tore up the railings and outdrive. Boat was repaired and if you didn't know what happened you could not tell from looking at it.

I have lost a couple tires, I had a buddy have a deer try to cross between his tow vehicle and his boat once, it didn't make it and was one hell of a mess on the white interior!!!!

I had a deer run into the side of my dually a few years ago, while I was towing a 3000 lbs. solid steel skidsteer trailer. I was pissed and immediate thought was looking forward to going back and shooting that bastard. I looked in the rear view and the trailer got him. He was in a flat helicopter spin around 8' high the last time I saw him. The trailer fender got him and sent him up. The vertically latched steel trailer ramp got him and sent him into the spin. It was a pretty cool sight considering.

YUK! I ran over and already dead deer on the road, or should I say remnants of a deer. Guts all down the front and side of the boat!! That was nasty!!

Not a trailering story, but I was driving a back road in my old F-350 one night and saw something in the road so I swerved before realising it was a deer. Jump out to check on it and realized it was breathing still pretty good. Didn't have a gun in my truck so I ran it over felt like the humane thing to do....

Deer and trailer stories now, ok. We were taking this picture of the Grooms model T and my Cobra when we heard the sound of screeching tires within 100ft of us. As we turn we see a deer go flying in the air from running into a side of a flat bed trailer from a passing pickup truck. Now, the deer laying in the ditch, and my daughter (maybe 8 at the time) crying witnessing the whole event now hiding in my car. The bride decides (half sister-and-law) to calmly asks for a knife and finishes the job. Gets blood on her dress. My immediate family, now stunned of what we witnessed, wondering why of all the guys around she had to be the one to get-ur-done. The worst part is watching her all night with blood on the dress. One crazy night.

It was Christmas 2001 I believe and we were trailering a 1993 Cafe Racer with a 1993 South Florida Trailer from Maryland to Ft. Pierce to jump off to the Bahamas for a week. All fine until Daytona in the middle of the night when we pulled out of gas station and noticed right rear tire/wheel leaving trailer as we turned out of gas station. Pretty much a rookie with trailers we went to an all night Walmart, bought a floor jack and noticed bearing destroyed. Slept in truck at gas station and in morning a gentleman came up to us (he was on a dual sport motorcycle getting coffee at gas station) and starting looking at trailer. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and relayed that all inner seals were eaten up and grease was flowing out of all the bearing cavities and we were pretty much not moving. He offered to bring to his shop to help, but I was too hardheaded to need his or any help. We spent that day searching for a bearing assembly and limped to Ft. Pierce. Got boat off of trailer in water and left trailer at a repair facility and did make it to the Abacos for a great time. Oh and the gentleman's name on his business card at gas station that tried to help - John Pompi. If I had only known then (for those of you who don't know, he is probably one of the best boat riggers in country)!!!!
