Whats the best and most durable to use. We are going to re-carpet the trailer.

I have, in the past, purchased rolls from our local Merc dealer. Not sure what it is or the weight. But it is rubber backed. Unfortunately, it doesn't last very long. I saw some at a West Marine store recently that was not rubber backed, and seemed thicker than what I have been using. Just wondering if it is better?? Not trying to hijack, but feel the answer might be relevant to your question.

My bunks are too long for the West Marine packaged carpet. So, I went to a home depot, and bought the needed lengths of their commercial runner. It comes on a bulk 100' roll, is two feet wide, and you just cut the amount you need. It was available in a dark gray that looks pretty good on my black trailer. It has held up wonderfully, and is what I'll do again when it's time.

Since you live in a boating area I would suggest checking your local Lowes. The last bunk project I had I used the black marine carpeting that they sell and it held up very well. It can also be cut to length and if I remember correctly it was slightly cheaper than going with the carpeting from the catalogs.

I used lowes carpet. But before I stapled it all together I used a bench sander and rounded off the corners where it normally tears. So far so good.
