Id like a new truck but at $60K thats not going to happen ..probably ever.

My first dually was a 1989 GMC 3500 454 2wd I bought new for just over 16,000.00. They were going for about 20,000.00 at the time but had a good friend that was leaving a dealership and made me a super deal on his way out the door. The new truck manager tried several times to buy me out of the deal before the truck was delivered which took 6 months. I drove it for 10 years putting 80,000 miles on it, bought a new truck and decided to sell it a few months later. I put it up at 12,000.00 and the first guy that came to look at it bought it. The Blue Book at the time was only 5,500.00 so if you take care of your chit it does pay off.I did better on a 1986 Ninja 1000R, I bought it new for 5,600 and sold it 11 years later for 5,500 to the first guy that came and looked at it. It still had the original tires with over 7,000 miles on them. My 2001 Chevy 8100/Allison will be up for sale buy the end of the week, bet the first (seriuos) buyer to come look at it buys it.

You do take great care of stuff but the high resale is being helped by the higher costs of newer stuff. In the bike/dually analogy the new ones were double the cost of the one you bought years before so it artificially propped up the resale......which is good for you as a seller. |

16K for a brand new big block dually in 1989 seems really cheap, I bought a new '89 S10 long bed/ 4.3 with bucket seats and I think it was 12-13K but I can't remember exactly. I did sell it to a buddy for $4500 in 1994 w/75K miles on it and he buried that truck with about 240K on it....rear main seal was leaking so bad he had to add a quart of oil every time he filled the gas tank!

What I really want to know is how to disconnect the tow sensor on a Cummins, because somehow that hitch knows when a trailer gets attached (sarcasm). I went to Miami last month to pick up my new 4700lb boat/trailer combo, and went from 21.1mpg empty, to 13.4mpg lightly loaded... WTF?
I tossed the same boat behind my anemic 2wd Silverado gasser and got the same mileage in 3rd at/below 70mph over a 350 mile trip over flat land. Granted the Cummins dealt with the mountains on I-75, but geez.... I REALLY wanted a diesel prior to the Miami trip, now I'm thinking of sticking with the Silverado until the next boat upgrade. |

Have a 7.3, Wish I would have bought a v-10 truck. Love the 99-04 superdutys with the v-10. Yes the turning radius is **** on the 99-04, and they are a bit bumpier of a ride, but thats the price ya pay for leafs all the way around.

My next project! Been collecting ideas for awhile now...only mine will have a flattop sleeper and be plated as an rv! turned up around 650horse, pull any hill with ease at 75 and no worries of doing any damage with a light 20k behind it and a jake for the decent all at a price a pickup could never even come close to!

You all might think I'm crazy but I have a 2005 nissan armada with the tow package. My closest ramp is 5 miles from my house. I do use 4lo to pull it out of the water. Boat and trailer weigh a little over 8k. The armada does pretty good around town but I'm a little hesitant to try highway travel.

heck I pulled my dads 25 foot center console Seafox on my 12000 rated triple axle aluminum trailer with my 08 Nissan Pathfinder. Plenty of power and 4 lo on the ramp it pulls like it is not there mpg was a whopping 7 though and that is letting the truck get slowly up to speed.. It has plenty of power to get it up to speed just want to go easy on the transmission. Its rated for 6500 i was right at that. Trailer pulls fine but it is a lot of windage with that big of a boat . Wouldn't wan to tow it hi winds or in a bad rain storm though. Armada would be no problem. |
The biggest thing is getting the right truck for the job. And a lot of morons tow things or dont know how to tow, for them I say error on the side of caution and get a bigger truck to make up the difference in brains.
