I would put the 6.4 in that category also! PS....I drive a Ford

Can't afford a newer 6.7, buy a gasser!

Funny you mention Range Rover. I used to feel the same. That was 15 years ago though. The new generation Rovers are stellar. Wife loves hers.

The 6.4 can be a very good truck. Just takes a little tweaking.

Seems like any Ford after the 7.3 is expensive to repair out of warranty. I had a 6.0, when it blew up the 2nd time I dumped it. When the time came to buy another truck, 7.3s and 6.4s were in my price range. I went 7.3. The fact that almost every 6.4 repair starts with "step 1: remove cab." scares the hell outta me.

I had a guy stop me yesterday asking how I liked my 6.0. My answer was the same if he had asked about the 6.4. If you don't know sh*t about diesels you don't want either motor. Plain and simple. Now if you do they make some serious power very reliably with a little common sense.

My 2010 is sitting on 99,600 miles....

Only issues - Trans Temp sensor went bad at 26k - Leaky radiator hose around 70k (Shop says was the clamps and ford has upgraded) - Burnt up Alternator around the 90k mark.

The truck has been solid and makes way more power than most of us will ever need. Stay regular with Oil Changes, Fuel Filter changes, and have the radiator and tranny flushed at the intervals recommended by Ford.

I started looking at 6.7L yesterday..Mine could be for sale...Still looks new...

2008 4x4 king ranch 6.4 all stock 87,000 miles no problems. Motorcraft oil and filter EVERY 2,500 miles.

The 6.0s and 6.4s are good motors as long as you take care of them and address the weak spots. I really think a lot of the 6.0s bad rap came from people wanting to maintain them like a 7.3. The newer diesels are much more finicky about clean oil and fuel. I have a bulletproofed 6.0 and love it and wouldn't hesitate on a 6.4. The 6.7 is nice but the new def systems are a pain in the ass and are not good for the motors. If I was going to replace my 04 dually it would be with an 08 to 10 6.4 f-450. That is the most complete towing package going. The 2015 450 has the good axles again but if I were to buy a 6.7 the def system would have to go. I'm prolly a lil different than most buyers as I do all my own work. I can have the cab off a 6.0 truck in 2.5 hours and a 6.4 is even easier due to the cab bolts come out the bottom.
