I had to load the boat, pull it up to level ground then winch it tight.......that being said I did the same thing you did and gouged the nose before I learned the other way!

I welded one up over a weekend. So much better than a roller setup. You can buy the bumpers directly from myco. Some pics of my design

I am guessing a solar panel to charge the battery for the winch. Interesting idea but it seems a little on the small size. But then again the battery does not get heavy continuous use,

wow, nice job on the V stop! Solar panel and all! ya, I'm giving some thought going back to the V. At minimum it forces me to go very slowly, very carefully, and not get too comfortable. Cant see the nose from the bow eye up getting scratched again with a V block. Great replies guys! Hmmmm.....
