In fact, brake lines on these trucks are one thing - rocker panels and frames are another high attack area. Most of our 2003 and older trucks (Chevy) are off to the junkyards already.

Sad !

Wish they did what Toyota did.

Edit in: Many fuel lines / evap lines also.

Chev frame cracking also behind rear of upper control arm mounts & boxed or hydroformed frames rusting through .And also 2010 + chevs rusting like crazy I have had 40k 2011 to take a sledge to brake & remove rear rotors calipers were no better just junk , body rust also .

One of my techs has an 04 2500 that the exhaust manifold fell off because the studs rusted out of the head. The heads and block look like they where at the bottom of the ocean with the Titanic. Chevy told him to pound sand and buy a new truck. The truck at the time was only 8 yeas old!

Chevy had a problem with brake lines 90s tru 2005 they run the lines to a junction right behind the left front tire . When you go to replace the lines you have to make them . Use nickel cadmium brake line it's a little more expensive but it will never rust and easy to work with.

You don't have to make them anymore. GM makes a kit pre bent with coated lines and all fittings installed. They are cheap, like 70 bucks for the whole kit. I have made tons from Cupro Nickle, but this is actually quicker and easier, and theoretically they should hold up just fine.

Don't forget a pressure bleeder when you do the lines. Makes short work of bleeding. I have one from Motive. Other shops in my area come by to borrow it, even though it is only mid $100 for a kit that covers many app's. ie: brake masters, clutch masters, and etc.

Why the worry? Been told a trailer with surge brakes will actually stop the rig faster than an empty truck will. You know those trailers will pull your truck backwards when stopping the harder it pushes. :)

Another aurguement for EOH. ;). Glad you made it ok

Frame recall. They' ll come in to the shop, after frame replacement, with new brake lines and etc.

As far as our salt laden area the worst trucks for rust:

Most Ford rangers (almost all are no longer on the road here)

Last Generation Chevy truck - as this thread mentions (not many 03's and ealier around. 2004's almost ready to send to Junk Yard)

Distant third - Toyota Trucks.

Toyota stepped up big time. Chevy and Ford have not done anything.

Classic Tube SS kit: $332
Dorman SS kit: $104

Anyone think Classic Tube is that much better?
