2015/2016 2500HD Gas Jobs?
Is anyone out there rockin' a new Chevy HD with the 6.0 gas motor? I'm considering a regular cab long bed as a work truck. Nothing crazy. Ladder rack, tool boxes, possibly a plow. It seems like there are some good deals on leftover 2015's in this configuration. Any opinions on the drivetrain? Does the transmission hold up? Especially while plowing?
I try to keep a diesel and a gas job around. My diesel is still going strong but the gas truck is due for replacement. Thanks! |
Thought they had allison trannys in those? My buddy just got rid of his after 8 years......avg mpg was like 11! When gas was $4 a gallon we joked it would cost $1 to go 3 miles! He used his as a daily driver and should have just gotten a 1500 crew but wanted the "big truck" look.

Strong drivetrain- proven and will handel plowing. Gas at 2.19 diesel is 2.79 here in michigan. No real difference in fuel costs. Great deals on 15's and the cabs are very comfortable.....

I have a 2011 Denali HD 6.0 with 6sp trans and love it. has 3.73 gears and gets 14mpg. Tows my 37 AT pretty damn good too. I love the truck. The new gas motors will go an easy 200k if maintained. Unless you are towing heavy every day its hard to justify a diesel..8-10k initial purchase, $100+ oil changes, emissions crap and $$ repair costs. Just my .02

14 is that downhill with wind at you're back. Gasser compared to diesl is a void comparison. Two complete differant animals. 6.0 compared to its BIG brother. I'd pay the difference and recoup on the resale. And enjoy a real motor. A big boys truck. Just playing.

Also try to sell a gasser with 200 k. Compared to the diesel people still buy them. Often and bring good return.

I don't disagree that diesel's aren't right for everyone, but I don't think you should really consider the initial upcharge as you'll recoupe that and the "expensive oil change" argument is ludicrous on this website where half of us pump 16 quarts out of our big-blocks every winter because the oil has 15 hours on it!! 2-3 oil changes a year at 100 bucks as opposed to 50-75 bucks on the gasser is not a real good argument. It always reminds me of when people say you shouldn't own a dually because of the extra tire expense, which really equates to 2 extra tires (300 bucks) every 100k miles....
There is no doubt though the newer diesel's are more expensive to repair........ |
Thanks for the responses guys. I am considering the cheaper gas engine truck only since I already have a diesel daily driver/tow vehicle. I liked the idea of cheaper cost of short term ownership especially since i would like to spend the savings on some more equipment for my side business.
However the more i think about it, the more i would rather put money into my current gas job 2500, and trade in my current diesel for a dually.. |
