2016 F250 4x4 w/ 6.7 Power stroke on the tow ball....good to go? Single Rear Axle

Dry weight of vessel is 10,800 lbs I believe, not sure about trailer weight.

Make sure you get a good class V ball mount that can handle the weight. With trailer and any fuel/gear and you're probably easily over 15k pounds. Airbags in the rear wouldn't hurt either.

Sure since the OL is a SV52 and that is like a 250 but backwards then that means it will be fine! The good part is you will be towing the boat twice because at 10,800 that means the boat has been cut in half like those whacky 1960's Boston Whaler commercials.

That is an SL52 full cabin, loaded, dry weight not SV52. It all depends on which boat for the weight as they had different lay ups and options. Call me at the shop for a weight.

I have a 14 F-350 single wheel an towed my 42 Fountain fine. Jus don't stop it well if trailer brakes are not 100%. The problem occurres when u have to stop unexpectedly when a soccer mom pulles out in front of u an her lawyer says u were towin more than the truck was designed to do an ur toast. An all she has to do is watch tv 10 min an she will see 50 ads telling her they will get her lots of money.
I jus switched to a Sportschassie jus to be on safe side when traveling. I've owned a Transport Co for 15+ yrs an havin the right equipment to pull wit is a big safety issue. More so than most realize unless u have towed heavy stuff for many yrs. Their will always be that one time in someone's career when they have a real close call then they realize how important tow rigs are.

It's not towing it...it's stopping it. You are seriously over-weight for a pick-up. In a emergency maneuver that boat is going to push the truck wherever it wants to go.
You are liable for who you kill or injure. You need a medium duty truck like a Sport Chassis, Kenworth or Peterbilt. Anything less is foolish. You get the right cop who pulls you over and he will make you leave the truck or the boat. I spent an hour on the side of the road with my 42X and Peterbilt getting lectured because I didn't have a class A license at the time. It's all about weight, both truck and boat. When the boat weighs more than the truck the boat will win.

I tow my 46OL w my 2011 F350 crew cab SRW all the time. Full electric trailer brakes slow the truck down with the gain all the way up

a 52' boat with a dry weight of 10,800 plus probably 3000 lbs for the trailer plus the fuel in that size boat puts you well over the rating of a 3/4 ton truck. I know my Chevy 2500 is 13,000 lbs max.

And towing a skid steer on a 20' trailer and a 50' long boat/trailer/rig of same weights are drastically different circumstances.

Skid steers are typically loaded on the center of the trailer and weight is evenly distributed. On a boat, the majority of the weight is behind the rear axle, and regardless of the COG on the trailer setup, all that tail will outwag the dog in a holy-chit moment at some point.

Not saying it is okay, but I'd rather pull an overloaded 50' boat on a custom trailer than the same weight on a 20' flat bed. Yes, the heaviest part of the boat is in the back, but that's why boat trailer axles are so far back. You still have a properly balanced load with a boat trailer. Plus, the length adds to stability in bad situations.

12k skid steer on a trailer with electric brakes sucked compared to my 10k+ boat and trailer with EOH. That's with a 2015 f250 fx4 6.7. Same truck as a 350 less the sticker. That includes the added leaf pack, rear shackles, and bump stop.

IF the trailer is properly fitted to the boat, there shouldn't be a sway issue. Meaning the trailer is balanced with the appropriate ~10% tongue weight. I say IF, because I know a lot of trailers (S. Florida in particular) are not fit to the boat, are not balanced, are being towed by way too small of a vehicle, and are scary to watch go down the road.

A Skid steer on a trailer weighing 14K or a boat weighing 14K they should tow the same,truck for truck. as long as tongue weights are setup correctly. the boat just looks bigger and has more of a chance of knocking down street signs just from the lenght

10% tongue weight doesn't matter when the 6000 lbs. of everything behind the rear axle on the boat trailer decides it wants do pull a Cole Trickle and pass the COG on the outside; and the tow vehicle doesn't have enough ass to hold it it line.

Ford says 14,000# rating. My 2014 F250 tows my 42' Fountain fine. Make sure you have good trailer breaks.

If 6,000 lbs is behind the rear axle, the trailer is not balanced. The two go hand in hand. If the trailer is balanced, it will tow straight and true, no matter the weight. Again, IF the trailer is built right. A large gust of wind or a bouncy road is another story and that will probably push the truck around.

I do agree that a dually at a minimum would be the correct tow vehicle for this boat, but probably more like an F650 or Sportchassis (plus they look cooler!).

Thread is stupid for a few reasons:

1. Darr probably started it
2. Owner of a 52 OL wouldn't care to trailer it (lift kept/marina kept type boat)
3. The correct truck for the job (F450) can be had for almost the same money as a loaded F250. So just buy the right truck and debate is over.

First of all, I don't feel the OP has near enough truck to safely tow a 52' OL.

I do feel the need to weigh in on the skid loader verses boat conversation being that I pull both with the same truck. The boat is pulls like a dream with no ill handling effects whatsoever. The skid loader, on the other hand, well lets just say it never lets you forget its back there...:picard1:

Ha, well they both belong to my GF, and have particular meaning aligned with her fight against breast cancer.
The bug came first, and we had that completely disassembled and painted a custom pink metallic pearl. She knew the pink was going to happen before she found the right VW. Good old Aflack money paid for that because she's the strongest woman I've ever met, and took minimal time off work.

We took them both to Cars & Coffee Halloween and it was a big hit, especially for the little girls; not just boys who come with Dad to C&C. That's where the above picture was taken.
It's a 1965 Mallard Duck or something like that, fully restored, but still a bit of patina in the paint department and a few other areas.

We've taken it to Key West for the past two years over New Year's week, and it's been a blast.
I run a full WD hitch setup on it for a couple reasons: It's almost perfectly balanced, and teters when on the hitch. The WD hitch and sway control takes care of that, especially since it only weights 1100 lbs, and I have towed it well over 80 mph for long stretches. It also has electric brakes. And also, since it is so light, I keep the WD hitch pretty taught with downforce to keep it planted on the ground behind us. She just bought a MB ML-Class diesel to tow it with; so she doesn't have to borrow one of my trucks.

That's because Tres Martin designed the boat bottom to lift the stern at highway speeds! So it rides like a flying carpet back there! :D

Sydwayz, I was going to give you disbelief about the "girl friend's" car, but won't now. That is a awesome story out of a horrible situation. All the best to her, and those who care about her.

Do you have a hitch on the bug to pull the trailer in local parades and such? That would make a nice statement about Breast Cancer Research. Might even save a life if it causes a woman to get checked who might not otherwise.

Fair enough, but part of the reason was that trailer is too small for the boat. Look how much is hanging behind the bunks. Hard on the boat, and increases the tail-wagging potential of the rig. The engine weight is a couple three feet further back than it should be.
