Had a 2012 Ford EB that I bought new and traded it at around 100k miles. No problems other than a minor AC blower issue. Towed my 30' with it and never had a problem.

Traded it on a 2015 Sierra 5.3 with the max tow package and liked the truck but was not as strong as the EcoBoost, and finally ended up lemon lawing the truck because of a highway vibration that they couldn't fix.

Ordered a new 2016 Sierra Crew Cab 4wd with the 6.2 as a replacement and love it. Max tow, 3.42 rear, 8-speed transmission, and 420 hp. It hauls ass for a full size truck, and is fun to drive.

The guy has 1 post and it's about truck choices pitting ford against Chevy? Very odd. And hasn't been back since to discuss?

Any brand diesel, DRW's are more stable, wheelbase is your friend! (Sorry, just checked the post and see you are looking for a 1/2 ton ) One of my boys has a 2015 ecoboost and loves it. Early eco's had issues, not much post 2013. Ford has dumped a ton of development into the turbo motors, and just won LeMan's with the GT. Another son has a 2016 5.3 chev and loves it, way more nut than the older motor. The v-8 sounds better, the turbo motor is played with and goes like stink! The 1/2 ton Ram diesel might also be an interesting option. Try them all, decide what is best for you. Seat style and comfort, price, value, finance rate, factory incentives are all important. In my opinion though, dealer rapport is vital. A great dealer is more valuable than a great deal! Just my thoughts, Good Luck!

Towed my 280 from atlanta to dsm iowa with 2014 150 kingranch. With the 3.5 ecoboost and max tow (3.73 gears). I was definitly impressed. That truck could care less my boat was behind it. About 11 mpg towing at 75mph. It was seriously like a cadilac on steriods. If it didnt cost 3 times what the duramax i just bought did, i would have bought one just like it. Very nice truck. The dirtymax is a beast though.

I was not really trying to pit Ford against Chevy. I get a family discount from GM, but was still finding better deals on the F150. Picking up a 2016 F150 Supercrew this Saturday actually. A good friend has a 2014 Silverado and while I like the truck a lot, I am getting a much better deal on the Ford. For those that replied about half ton trucks I asked about, thank you.

im not brand loyal and have had all three and here is what I can tell you. First any one of those trucks will do you good. Ive owned an 07 Silverado, 14 Silverado, 2011 F150 ecoboost, and now for the last 4 months a 2016 Ram. All had the V8 short of the eco, all were 4x4 and all either had the 3.73 gearing or the 3.92 (ram). All got roughly same MPG, ram has been the worst the eco the best. Eco towed the best, chevy and ram tow similar, with ram better off the start probably due to gearing a slightly stronger motor with more torque. The F150 the 14 Silverado, and the new ram have all towed either a 10k boat or an 8k boat or either.

Money wise the F150 is going to cost the most(although they do give huge deals on them, when I got mine, I ordered it custom and still got 10k off at the time), with chevy being next and ram the cheapest comparing trim to trim level, option to option. Ram does offer more neat little features then I think the other two do, with chevy being the least innovative of the three, and chevy really straps you on options, its either a work truck, a middle of the road truck or the LTZ, just how their optioning works, nothing in the middle. my 07 and 14 Silverado were always in the shop, the 14 mostly for 6-8 recalls in two years but no real break issues, the 07 due to being junk, ford had a caliper seize up that was it, and ram having to go in to calibrate the speedo so far, so really to early to tell on the ram. Ecoboost averaged 17.2mpg towing around 12, Silverado was 15.8 and 10 towing, ram is getting 14.8mpg, with no real numbers to report for towing. The best riding truck so far has been ram hands down. When I say all of this, im talking half tons not 2500s or diesels, different ball game there and hard to compare those with 1/2 tons.

What I can tell you is this after owning a 14 silveardo and a 07, there is no way I would step into a 13 or lesser GM truck, doesn't make sense. With ford Id get into an eco but probably look for a 13 or better, there were some issues with the turbo lagging in the earlier models although mine and 3 others I knew that had them had zero issues, but by 13 those issues were gone for the most part. every truck has its issues, I wouldn't buy into the fear mongers on any particular model. Now as far as the 5.0 in the ford, I don't know much about it, I haven't owned one, but by all accounts is solid. Also with the ram I don't have a lot of seat time to give a huge thumbs up or down but so far I like it. Also remember todays half tons have roughly the same if not more capability than 3/4 tons did 15 years ago.

If it were me and I was use I would try all three. If your going used maybe buy the one that is the best buy. Also if it were me Id probably go with an F150 ecoboost again, probably the best truck ive owned. After that it would probably be the best buy between a chevy and a ram, the ford was just better. Ram is nice but definitely I don't think its built better than the other two, but they cost less and seem to give you more. But if your going to buy something and expect it to last another decade or more chevy or ford would be my pick. I really look to GM first as I get the employee discount because of dad, but after coming from an eco to a 14 Silverado the silvy just didn't have it in the engine department. While true the eco can suck fuel, I learned how to drive it and got great MPG. If I ever go back to GM its going to be with a 6.2l or better, Im not buying into that 5.3 engine anymore.

Ive owned two diesels in that mix too, and I can tell you two things wow and costly. They are towing machines, but between fuel costs, dpf, filters, annual maint, and god forbid something breaks, they are not cheap. In my mind no need for a diesel unless you are hauling over 10k on a regular basis. the 8-10k range is kind of a grey area as this is where 250/2500 gassers pick up and 1/2 tons leave off. Never owned a 2500 gasser but do know they suck gas, and for the most part your getting the same engine that a half ton has in a bigger truck, which albeit means heavier frame and better brakes. With that said the tow packages on some of these half tons really put them close to a 2500 gasser.

I had a '11 F150 / 5.0 with 3.73 as a work truck. Drove 'till 150K without issue and used it to tow my 30' Formula, about 10K#'s fully wet. It was about all the truck could handle but it did fine around town. The only issue with the truck is the transmission would occasionally shift from 1st to 2nd and feel like someone ran into the back of you. It was as if the transmission got confused where it was and would temporarily go into neutral which caused the revs to go up and then slam into gear. I swore one day the drive shaft was going to fall out but it never did. Ford made multiple attempts to correct this and never could. The truck had limited slip and that really help at the ramp.

Yeah it was the first year of the six speed, mine had it in my 11 eco, it was querky at times. GM came out with their speed in 14 and I had one of those, not quite as querky but did the same thing.

My '10 has a 6-speed with the 5.4L. A 5-Star tune eliminated all the stupid transmission quirks Ford has. Shifts like a Chevy now!

Have had three Ecoboosts now and they are a towing machine up to 8,000 lbs. I haven't pulled higher weights. I am averaging 20.3 MPG for the life of my 2015 4x4 Crew excluding towing. With the lighter 2015 I pickup up about 2 MPG. Very little downshifting when towing. Amazing for a v6. The torque makes it feel like a small diesel. I haven't heard much bad about them other than a few posts here.
