I pulled mine about 600 miles around trip open with no issues and went through torrential rainfall on the way down. Unfortunate as I hate to have dust on the boat.. :-) but was prepared for the potential. Surprised the cockpit wasn't that bad after the rain, a lot must have washed out. I really think prep goes a long way: pulled cockpit rug, moved bimini tops in the cabin, remove anything under seats, antenna straight back and make sure it’s secure (I wrapped the section that would contact arch with a towel/tape in the event it came lose), taped the wet bar doors, taped extra tie-down lines up in addition to bungees, cabin doors locked/closed, etc. I did wrap the arch with wide packaging clear wrap to protect from bugs. 600 difference in cost isn't much in the grand scheme of things if you are debating experience levels.

I just pulled my (new to me) Formula 400SS from Utah to Iowa (1250 miles) with a F350 dully (V10). I did not shrink wrap mine because of the imron paint on the sides. I did use cockpit cover with shrink wrap tape on front & half way down sides. I also used rope in an "X" pattern from bow rails to rear cleats. then I ran a couple pieces of rope from side to side attached to cleats.
We hit some really bad weather in Nebraska but the interior was untouched.
I will never pull a boat (on a long trip) with out a cover. It is a little extra work but worth it to me.
