Truck advice

Need to get a tow vehicle for my 2001 Active Thunder 28 on a steel Myco trailer. All local driving , no long hauls. Was thinking about Chevy Silverado 1500 or the Dodge Ram 1500. Would either of these vehicles be up to the task ? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, you should be fine with any of those choices in late model years.
What year and what power have you been considering?

Dodge is the 5.7 hemi with the 392 rear gears or the Chevy 5.3 with 342 gears, both 2017

Yes, either one of those will be fine. But you don't want to tow much more than what you've got.
1) If you've never towed with a modern turbodiesel, it really is a completely different experience. If you can swing the coin, you would love the difference.
2) If you ever plan to upgrade to a bigger boat, going ahead and getting the bigger truck now makes that a much simpler exercise down the road.

See the last page of this thread; as it has info relevant to you and your load which is likely around 8500 lbs, if not a bit more when fully loaded.

I offer the same advice whenever someone asks about towing ability. Do NOT buy a truck to tow the boat you have.......buy a truck to tow the NEXT boat you wish to own!!!!

I'm a Ram guy depending on the year you want to buy. 2013 and up are the nicest IMHO, I have had 4 of them and about to trade my 2015 Longhorn in. If you want one let me know you might want this one.

If you can find one, go for the 6.2 in the Chevy and definitely the Max Tow package in either engine.

I went from a 2015, 5.3, 6-speed, and 3.73, to a 2016, 6.2, 8-speed, and 3.42's and it's night and day better. Also, check the specs on the new ones with 8 speeds, as I think they only come with 3.42's with the max tow package. I'm towing 9000 ish with mine and would never go back to the 5.3. My EcoBoost did better than the 5.3 by far.

resale on a diesel truck will be higher as well. Just something to think about.
