Upgrades to BMW 328xi
I have a 2008 BMW 328xi with the inline 6 that I bought for my wife in 2010 ( Jan ) it had 7500 miles on it. It now has 33,000 miles. used in the summer only. Wife hasn't driven it since Sept 2010 due to medical reasons.
What can be done to increase HP that is reliable. And I don't mean 10 to 20 HP - more like 100 or more without buying a new car.

We have the same car, if I wanted the 300-320hp of the 335 I'd just sell and buy. These are so old now, that the price diff between a 2008 328 and a 2008-10 355 is much smaller then the money you will dump in and never get back.

There is literally nothing you can do to get you where you want with the car. Most of the N/A BMWs are fairly efficient/maxed out from the factory. From airbox setups companies sell to exhaust, there are negligible gains if any. The turbo 6 variants 335/340 (there are several different iterations now over the years) are very easy to gain modest power for the dollar.
Don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but I feel you would be wasting your money/unhappy with the decision to pursue the idea.

I actually just checked ESS tunings site to see if they had anything for N52s. Looks like they do, which I was unaware of. I've installed a few of their kits on various cars over the years. They are a good name and make nice stuff. However I've honestly never been overly impressed with centrifugal superchargers on inline 6 BMWs. The other question I would have with the kit, is the fact that the factory crank bolt/timing chains are simply timed together via clamping force of the crank bolt. In other words, the crank is not keyed, nor is the crank/timing chain sprocket. When the cars are in a good front end hit, they can very easily jump timing because of this. Not exactly the most robust setup in terms of driving a supercharger/head unit.

Was pricing out used M3's last night with low mileage.
Looks like the best I am going to get for mine is about $13,000 and a used M3 is going to cost $30,000.
Is there a year that I should stay away from in the M3 ( looking at 2009 or 2010)
Are there any known failure points.
