I ran this issue by my service manager a bit ago & he said "keeping in mind that you're asking me to answer a question about something I can't see and really haven't had time to think about, this is what my crystal ball would look like"

This is paraphrased a bit but the direction of the conversation looked like this - If the issue was between a common truck and a pair of different trailers I'd focus first on the overall picture because there are any number of things which could be responsible for differing amounts of brake input required; number of axles, tire size, tire condition (contact patch), number & size of brakes, and weight of trailer and load. That's where I'd start, in the reverse order of how I listed them. The trailer with a smaller contact patch, smaller or fewer brakes, or heavier load I'd guess would need more aggressive braking to slow it down.

If the issue was between a common truck and different manufacturers and everything else being equal IE load weight, brakes, tires etc ? I'd look first at wiring; differences in gauge diameter, number and type of connections, or even battery size could result in changes in impedance so a particular system would need more or less input "pulse". Even grounding process could affect it...electricity does weird stuff...it's not a "right or wrong thing, more of a this is a characteristic of this manner of doing a particular thing". I'd look next at brake line material and diameter. Fluid volume or type and/or line stretch could affect efficiency. Brake line routing could also have an affect IE more severe bends in a line could cause a loss in efficiency; not enough to be bad, just enough to require more "work".

He then cautioned me again - "you understand that without the trailers and the tow platform in front of me this is all precision guesswork, right ? You aren't going to post this on the 'net somewhere like this is definitely the answer ?"

Manning seems to make very nice trailers, although I have never had one so I cant speak much to it. I do have 5 Mycos and absolutely love them. My newest one is about 8 months old now and tows our cabin cruiser all over the place. My biggest issue with a boat this size with a hard top, was getting the height to 13'6" (with removing the radar/ FLIR and pedestal). Last spring, I had Manning, Myco, and Broward quote it. Manning was by far the cheapest, followed by Broward and then Myco. Since it was my fifth Myco, I got 15% off which put it just below Broward. After getting the quotes back, and deciding to go with Myco (due to my level of comfort with them), Myco was the only company who suggested and drew it up as a 10' wide trailer (Boat is 10'11" beam) to get the boat to sit lower in the trailer. This put Myco as the most expensive, but wasn't apples to apples anymore. I am right at 13'6" tall now. Last summer we put over 5,000 miles on it and have been very happy. Myco was a pleasure to work with and did multiple custom options for me. During the course of the build we probably exchanged 150+ emails, they sent me pictures throughout the build, and I flew down once to check it out and go over everything.

Regarding Broward. The guy even blocked me on FB because I called him out on doing this on one of his rants about how everyone else sucks and Broward is the only good trailer manufacturer. The next time I buy a boat and need to have a trailer built, I will not even have Broward quote it. ASG here on OSO had probably the sickest looking aluminum trailer that I've ever seen under his last Top Gun. It was a Myco C-channel aluminum, and finish painted to match the lower side of the hockey stick graphics. Bobby, Steve, or Greg can probably find a picture. I can't find one on his FB page.
