5th wheel or gooseneck always seem to ride/pull better (IMO) To answer your question, yes the factory hitch is sufficient. It takes a 2.5 inch receiver or standard with an adaptor sleeve.

f-350 will tow combined gross 42K with gooseneck/fifth wheel. My 17 does a fine job with my 400SS. It rides better than the 17 F-250 that I just sold. F-450 pushes you into different insurance class and is not necessary for what we are pulling.

The price of the new HD pickups is what gets me. 70-80k+? If you can use it for its purpose everyday maybe, but for a dedicated toy hauler I’d be looking more towards a used international or sportchassis and not have to think about gross weights again.

I have a 2018 450 Limited that I DD and tow our 34’ cruiser with. I have not yet towed our 43 Donzi or 39 Nor-Tech with it yet, but this boat is heavier and way more wind drag. Pulls it perfectly fine. I get about 8-8.5 mpg @70mph. Absolutely love the truck!

I know someone with a F450, speed limited to 80mph ( due to high gear ratio?) I believe he said, he hates that .

IF you plan to daily drive a DRW Ford, and live in a locale with anything more than 1000 residents, you will appreciate the turning radius of the F-450 over the F-350; guaranteed. Speed limiter can be adjusted, and even gear ratio but you can't adjust the turning radius without major custom mods.

Now, there was at one point, that you could order the F-350 DRW with the SAME wide front axle as the F-450. It was a "wide-track" option or something like that. But I don't know if that's still a viable option.
