Structural Question
Has anybody seen a welded truss on a aluminum trailer? I have seen many steel boat trailers have a welded truss added on top of the main tube or channel.I also see them on steel car carriers from the factory's. It adds rigidity and acts to increase the cord strength without using a taller main frame. I'm considering adding a 3"x2" .250 wall to stiffen up my 10" aluminum c channel. These would be on 2.5" stanchions. That should increase my chord strength to around 15"....Maby. My driveway vertical curve is pretty steep, the trailer is not happy cresting the top. Thoughts?

I think it would be beneficial and add a lot of strength. Are you going to brace the inside of the c channel under where the uprights are welded on? Not sure if it is needed but I would stiffen the ones where the trailer frame curves are... just to be sure as the loads are greatest in that area and are more likely to buckle in...
