C3 Corvette
Any C3 vette owners on the board ? just bought a winter project, good place to buy parts if needed ?
|
Like any project, research and price shop accordingly... Resto-mod or Original?

|
And just noticed classic industries is finally going to be getting into the 'vette restore game
https://catalogs.classicindustries.c...quest-corvette |
|
Not sure how they compare with anything else posted, they were one of the few I knew of in the early 2000s, used to get the catalog every month but Ecklers.
|
That new toy box you built is gonna full up quick Ken :ernaehrung004:
|
Paragon has a good printed catalog with parts diagrams with technical sidebars, Zip, Corvette Central, Corvette Pacifica, Eklers has aggressive pricing but then kills you in freight. I'm local to them so it works for me. Just stay far away from Corvette Mods. Covid has things messed up right now for parts. What year are you working on.
|
Its a 69 427 4 speed bought from the second owner 60K on the clock, hasn't been on the road since 78, sitting for 42 years, time capsule
|
with c3's that have sat that long replace all the calipers with ones that have been stainless lined. if there is any rust in the fuel tank just replace it, it is cheaper in the long run. I have a 67 427 tri power conv. in the shop right now that has sat for the last 6 years and the fuel tank is so rusted it is barely scrap. replace any of the rubber hoses and belts, rebuild the carb and drive it.
|
This was moved to TRUCKS AND TRAILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHY>>>>>>>>>>who is going to see it here NO ONE

Just to save yourself some grief and overhauls - drop the tank and clean/replace it and chemical clean/purge the entire fuel system incl. going through the carb if its sat that long.
its a PIA job but only has to be done once properly (and easier done before you trying to diagnose a list of gremlins). Nice find especially is all original timepiece. |

The tank looks new so I guess no tank build sheet, .....
https://www.corvetteactioncenter.com...x.php?cmd=area With that there are a few "companies" that are creating a tank sheet.....not original but it is what it is. |

I don't know how far you want to take your winter project but you can get a copy of the original invoice which lists the options. (Official repro tank sheets are only avail for '81 and newer from Bowling Green)

I redid the engine in a '70 small block 4 sp conv vette that was originally dark blue with a white interior. car was gorgeous when I first saw it. shortly after he got it (before the rebuild) he had it painted red with a red interior. not nearly as pretty as it was but that was what he wanted. cortez silver is really pretty when done right. always loved that color on them.
|
found the tank sticker, its been on top of the gas tank since Dec 4th 1968...............it validates the car as a true 427 with all the options.........:D
|
+2 on keenparts of course they are 4 miles from my house so I am kind of biased cause I don’t have to wait for shipping. My 70 is Cortez silver and it just turned 50k miles on Sunday not my favorite year corvette but when your dad buys it 6 months before you were born and dad is no longer here I will never part with it

Www.corvetteforum.com is a must join resource.
I live about 20 minutes from Zip Corvette, and have been there many times and have spent a lot of money there on my C5. My sister had a 1968 C3 327, and bought a fair amount of parts from them as well (sold it on BringATrailer). |
Yep. Corvette forum has got me through every C5 quirk so far. Head light gears, seat bolster rpr, pull key and wait errors, you name it. Great site.

My Dad restored a ‘69 427/390HP Roadster in the early 90’s. Automatic but had the factory chambered side exhaust. I’ll see if I can hunt down a pic. Nice find!!
|
I used to have a 69 390/427. It was a bit of a strange build, was a automatic turbo 400 car/ tilt telescope wheel/ and rear window defroster with power windows but no AC. In the Silver color. Wish I still had it but that happens.
Still love the look of the C3 bumper cars. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f12792f18.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4b556150e.jpeg |

I had this '72 from '07 or '08 until '14. 406CI/425 HP. It ran good and was a fun car! No AC forced a sale before moving to Florida...

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2a8de4d5cd.jpg or what a C5/C6 is going for these days I think I will keep it as my daily for a few more years. I am averaging 24 mpg at 80 mph on the interstate. |
20 years ago a friend had a 69 or 70 w 454- not sure if stock or not- Sitting at an intersection he said watch this- he nailed it- did a 360 before i even knew what hit us.
We just went home lol. Might have been some Drinking going on that day. Fun rides. |
TI ignition and headrests! Pretty cool options. Congrats on a great platform. 390HP, you’ll like not having to adjust the valves often. Way cool!!
|
Ya, some guys on the Corvette forums said it was a nicely optioned car, the last item on the build sheet is an alarm, the heads are done, taking the block to the machine shop this morning, thinking of going full roller instead of flat tappet for a cam choice.
