The SL 55 hands down. This car sounds incredible...I've never been a fan of the hight-pitch Ferrari note. Dealer network is way bigger with Benz. Power is awesome and it just looks badass! I've always thought MB were the most underrated performance cars out there, plus they're built like trucks! On the flip side, I've heard Ferrari's aren't the most reliable vehicles around. Ferrari's have a rich racing heritage, but it ends there. Plus I hate Schumacher...
Both have legendary reputations in their own way, but only one of these companies invented the automobile!

Buy a used Firebird Formula Ram Air WS6 for reliable transportation, and most everyone thinks it is a Ferrari anyway.
It is also a rarer car than either the Benz or Ferrari you are thinking about. Cost would likely be about 20K, with the rest you can buy a plane, another boat or ...
Here is our 1996, one of 55 red automatics made that year. It has over 122,000 miles on it, still looks brand new, and glass t-tops cannot be beat for tall guys to look through and see the traffic lights.
I can't see myself ever selling this car, I love driving it so much.

Hello gentlemen. I'm not sure where you guys are coming up with valve jobs every 1000 miles or the issue with parts or service. I currently have a 550 & came out of a Testarossa (this is the correct spelling by the way). The 550 & 575 are great cars the later being the better of the two. My 550 has been great to the point that I drive it too much for the fact of keeping the miles off it for resale. The service is about a 1000$ every year for lube & check-up. The belt service is ever 15,000 miles or 7 years & runs about 3500-4500$. I can't speak for the 575 F-1 but a 550 6-speed is the best street car I've ever drove. That's my expernce & my 2 cents.

Mercedes are tooo soft in road feel to be considered a sports car for me and MB tex aint leather. Anything Mercedes is not only a chick car, its your dentists wifes! It's a nice car and even fast but thats about it. The Ferrari is a true performance GT, real Italian leather, V12 engine noise, and good road feedback.... A better comparsion for the MB's "sports" cars is my 1988 928S4 and once I find the right super charger kit for it should be as fast as well......
