We just pulled our 311 on a steel 3 axle trailer to LOTO with our 2019 6.2 gas 6 speed 4.30 gear super duty and it did great. I figure as good as it does a 7.3 10 speed 4.30 gear will do even better. We are wanting to move up to a 382 with gen and ac so I wanted something more capable. The 6.2 truck gets 12mpg empty daily driving and 11mpg towing 10k lbs go figure lol. The 6.2 truck would likely do fine pulling a 382 on an aluminum trailer but I really want the cool new dash in the 2022 and we ordered a XL/STX last time so wanting a little nicer trim level this time around. The 6.2 needs to drop down to 4th gear to pull 10k uphill on I70 between Kingdom City, MO and STL but with the 4.30 gear it never drops down into 3rd. I would be afraid to throw much more weight behind it I believe it would find that 3rd gear often. Also, it seems the 7.3 10speed trucks get much better fuel economy.

Great info. Thanks. It's funny what you said about daily driving vs towing. My 6.0 would get within a couple mpg plowing, towing or daily driving.
I get having to downshift on some decent grades or towing etc no matter what your power plant, but the searching for gears with my 5.4 is what drove me nuts. Upshift, downshift, upshift, downshift....
Here's a couple I looked at this past weekend. Dealer was closed though.

I think you can draw a line there somewhere around 12k-13k pounds and say anything above you really need the diesel if you want to keep up with traffic pulling hills. I am not against diesel we are just at a point where I want one truck and it needs to be a gasser for a lot of reasons. I'm really excited to see how the 7.3 pulls, we came out of an 06 ram3500 with 5.9 and I was impressed with the 6.2 gas capability, it wasn't what I expected. I figured it would downshift constantly but the 6 speed has been silky smooth and gets up into 6th gear quickly and stays there when running empty which is 90% of my driving. Hoping that the 7.3 10 speed is just as good and hopefully a little better, plus I like big pushrod architecture V8's.

I'm towing with the 3.5L twin turbo Expy right now and am comfortable with the power amazingly enough. If I were towing with a 7.3 I'm sure I'd have permagrin again... I tow my enclosed trailer on the highway with the Expy, but I wouldn't tow the boat up the highway. That's only local. I'm looking forward to getting back into a real truck.

These truck prices are out of control, Im sure I could get top dollar for my 05 but it would take 80k or more to replace it.

That 85K is for a platinum with the tremor package, just about all the bells and whistles, so 85 doesn’t surprise me.
