Best truck to tow a Formula 311
#11
The brakes were out on my trailer for my 32 AT when I bought it. Didn't know it till I was towing it home. 11 hour tow home and it sucked. This was with a 2500HD with the 8.1/allison. My truck brakes were at about 50% when I went to get it and the front brakes were just starting to grind when I got home.
Any 2500 will pull it just fine, but nothing will stop it in a panic stop. Boat and trailer will weigh about 10k.

I found out the 12k lb trailer brakes were not working much the same way. I had factory Dodge rotors and good aftermarket HD pads. They really performed. Very little brake fade when hot, and really bit in to stop.
I always suggest using high quality HD front brakes like Hawk or EBC.
The Ford V10s can get the job done, bit they're pretty thirsty. NBD if it's just the tow rig for the 311.

Yeah, I’ve heard about the V10’s appetite for fuel but it’s literally only going to be used to schlep the boat around in Cincinnati then probably up to Sandusky to put in on Lake Erie. Likely, once the boat is in up there, the truck can probably even be sold as I don’t plan to bring it back south till it goes back to Miami when we retire 😉 and that’s a good while from now.
