the 2004.5 dodges now have 2 engine options. the original 305 hp 555 ft lbs and the new 325 hp 600 ft lb. i believe this is the largest diesel of the 3. draw back, is that it is still only available with a 4 speed automatic with no torque shift braking option like the ford/gm. i have read that it is exhaust brake compatable. i believe that it is the only one of the big three....

That does not seem right. Even though I'm a chevy guy and have a duramax, it seems to me my ferd friends are getting alot better than you.

Used a buddy of mine's Cummins dually to take my 42 Sonic (16,000 lb with trailer) to Florida last month. TONS of power and got 12 to 13 MPG. Only problem we had was it wanted to overheat in the mountains, but that could have been just this truck. I'm not a dodge guy, but I was impressed.

I had a '99 F-350 PSD (7.3) that was the best vehicle I have ever owned...period

Now I have an '03 Excursion with the new PSD (6.0) and have had alot of problems with it. I think the older 7.3 liter is/was a much better motor. Sure, the 6.0 is faster, but the dam thing is all turbo boost. The 7.3 liter seemed to have alot more low end balls.

I am in the process to get rid of my Ford now and I'm going to get a GMC 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison combo.

I've got a GMC 3500 Dually with the Duramax/Alison. Great truck, nice ride, and pulls like a beast. My neighbor just got a Ford 350. Nice truck, but in this day and age, I don't know why Ford still has manual locking front hubs on their HD trucks. Perhaps its an option I don't know about. It may make a difference if you drive in a lot of snow.

We have almost 2k miles on the new 2500 HD / Duramax since getting rid of the Ford and the thing has been great. Towed the Cig with it for the first time and I really like the feel of the Allison, and the Brakes are much better than the Excursion.

I think Semper Fi likes it too

:D

It is funny how everyone has a different experience regardless of the truck they own. It comes down to how you drive it, where you drive it and how well you take care of it. I have an 03 7.3 Excursion that turned 34,000 today and I never have had a problem. I don't stomp on it unless I am rolling pretty good, I never shut it down after a tow run or even a hwy run, I always let it warm up before I give it more than 1/4 throttle, and the most important thing is to make sure your oil pressure is up before you even think of touching the throttle, I plug it in on a timer for 3 hours if it is below 30, I change my fluids every 30,000 miles and oil at 5000 intervals, I always wait to start even if it is warm...this is the good time to put your safety belt on. All in all I just make sure I treat it like I would treat myself, just like you should treat others. My Dodge Ram went 190,000 before I sold it...for $10,000. It is still on the road at 225,000 and has never dripped a drop of oil. Like everything I own, if I can buy it new, it will last forever, look better than new and never fail me. I get a lot of crap from my friends over the way I sweat the details but I am the one towing them off the highway or off the trail. So, just take care of your stuff and it will take care of you. Now the one exception to this rule is women...take care of them and they will take advantage of you:rolleyes: Then it is time to trade them in,:D
