Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
Where and When....Lets get some feedback
Southern Chesapeake Lake Norman Smith mountain Lake Outerbanks area We need to pick a date. I need enough time to install a blower, cause i'm not watchin from the back. :evilb: It'd be great to get that 30 to 40 boats steve |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
I would vote for southern chesapeake as I am selfish and that would be easiest for me.
I'm also gonna be busy this winter, as my initial assessment of my engine leads me to believe it is hydrolocked. Gonna do some troubleshooting tomorrow, but it doesn't look good. I guess its an excuse to get rid of the 454 and drop something in with more juice. So much for a bigger boat. |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
It would be awesome seeing 12 or so Velocity's towing down I95 together. SML has my vote. :drink:

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
My personal opinion: We should break it up into three locations.
One year: North- cheasapeake Next year: Mid atlantic- N.C. Next year: Fla (somewhere by the factory) Then start all over again. At the very least we should start NOW for next year with the hoops we had to jump through this year we need to get an jump on it for next year. Rick what do think????????? |

Rick what do think????????? I like the idea of changing locations from year to year to keep things fresh. I was planning on a different Velocity Fest location for 2007. Here's a couple of things to keep in mind. There's going to be a NC Poker Run EVERY year since that's a CPBA event open to all brand boats. Consequently that will be big Velocity event each year independent of Velocity Fest. Florida has a lot of popular Poker Runs that people already annually attend together. I don't think there's a demand for a separate Florida Velocity Fest. I think it makes sense to offer a MD/DE/PA/NJ/NY regional Velocity event in addition to the annual CPBA event. People will have a "local" choice and if they want and they can also attend the CPBA Poker Run (or travel north to V-Fest). If people tell me they want to trail down to NC INSTEAD of doing something local in 2007, we can resume things in the MD/DE/PA/NJ/NY area in 2008. But this is just my opinion, please keep making your 2007 Velocity Fest suggestions, we'll get a consensus and start planning as soon as the boating season ends for us northerners |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
If we were to have Velocity Fest in N.C. next year why not have it at the end of May or the 1st of Jun instead of August? That way we wont have the same thing happen as this year with both events on the same weekend.
Or maybe we could combine both events in N.C. next year there poker run/ our Velocity Fest. It would be nice to have a chance to win some of the money you put out BACK. I for one would love to see a different venue. Something different. I've never been off the cheasapeke with my boat since i've owned it. Keep the ideas coming lets make next year bigger and better than last year. |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
Anyone out there been thinking about next year??????? We need some feedback people.

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
I for one would take a trip to the Mid west, anyone else??? We would need a piont of contact out there to help get everything set up. Anyone out there interested????????
What about the rest of YOU VELOCITY OWNERS. WERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE NEXT VELOCITYFEST HELD???? NORTH........SOUTH...........MID-ATLANTIC.........MID-WEST?? |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
I'm in for the great lakes, cleavland is great. I think we'd loose the southern guys.
for 07 I'm planning on doing Velocity outing at lake norman, Vfest mid atlantic, Thunder on the bay. after that I'll be broke. If we combine the velocity runs we should look at Norfolk. I don't know the south bay at all. |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
I would be up for anything within 6 hours of Md. Any further than that, and it would probably be unrealistic for me. This winter I'll be either upgrading my gerbil wheel or replacing it all together. Either way, I'll be looking forward to being a bit quicker :D Damn reversion got me!!

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
How about Put-In -Bay on Lake Erie in OH? This is my backyard and would be glad to help coordinate. Lots of Velocity owners in Mich and a few in IN, IL
If you want to party this is the place! Home of the worlds longest bar. Keywest of the north. http://www.putinbay.com/ Its about a 20 mile run from Sandusky which is probably the best place to launch from. There are alot of other good runs in western Lake Erie from there . |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
It would be great to have something on the Great Lakes. I would definitely participate. Have been to Put-in-Bay once and would LOVE to get back there.

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
OK Lets get serious, how many of you want to have a combined event in any of the spots mentioned even though it might be more that 6 hours away from home.I agree that if we want to have these people come to our local waters maybe we need to set an example that we are willing to go to other areas to put on an event in other areas.I for one as well as several others are willing to travel to other states to try and get as many of us together as possible and I know that Steve Teeter and his group are willing to do so as well ,and I know that Steve Stepp will also travel to put on an event.I would love to see as many Velocitys together at one time as humanly possible and there are alot of us out there so what do you think, lets do it.When ever and or where ever, lets try to pull this off.

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
For all of you who may not have received this email. Here you go.
The momentum from last summer’s Velocity Fest continues on with lots of discussion for next year! I’m writing exclusively to past Velocity Fest attendees as your ideas for 2007 deserve the most consideration. Furthermore, as a group we’ll decide what we want to do for our region. I used the word “region” on purpose as I see Velocity Fest as being a “local” Velocity Event (that ANY Velocity owner can attend of course) for our extended area. Please read on and I’ll further explain my “regional position”. You may have seen the many OSO posts for “Velocity Fest 2007” suggesting locations ranging from Canada to Florida to Michigan. These are all great suggestions and no doubt can be successful but the key to success is really two fold. First - is there a local demand for a new Velocity event and a sufficient number of “connected” Velocity owners that are willing to participate? Remember some percentage of owners just don’t like organized events and won’t join in. Second - as Brian Surguy posted, we need a “local” person to select the course and arrange the logistics. The logistics consumed two full days of Brian’s time last March before we could even start deciding on arrangements! Speaking from my experience last spring in Florida, it’s very time consuming (and expensive travel-wise) to try to do this from hundreds of miles away just to find out that there just aren’t enough folks interested for a variety of reasons. Often times areas have an event that local Velocity owners have already embraced such as the Jacksonville Fire Dept. for North/Central Florida, the Richmond Club event in Virginia, the North Carolina Lake Norman event and the PRA Sarasota Runs for west Florida. While I’m very willing to share my recipe for organizing a Velocity event - I’ve learned that you need a couple of people like Brian Surguy who are willing to invest the time to make it work successfully for any given location. In summary, I’m always happy to be the “general contractor” for any Velocity Fest in our regional area and very willing to help another area’s “general contractor” as best I can. What about the Lake Norman (near Charlotte, North Carolina) event and possibly combining it with Velocity Fest as has been suggested? First let me say that the North Carolina event is a real crowd pleaser for all involved and that several of us planned on going there this year (until the dates overlapped) and do plan on attending in 2007. Velocity Fest and the Carolina Powerboat Club’s Lake Norman events are fundamentally different. The Carolina Power Club includes all brands of boat owners and will always be held in Carolina for its local club members. Besides being a well established annual, one-day event - it’s been growing like crazy the last couple of years so why mess with a good thing? As you know Velocity Fest is a 2-day overnight cruise for Velocities only. That being said, I think it’s better to continue to have two different events - different choices are always good! Remember also, that there’s about 400 miles towing distance between Charlotte and Baltimore! We’ll make sure that conflicting dates won’t happen again in 2007 to enable folks to go to both. So unless there’s no interest in holding a “regional” Velocity Fest in 2007, we’ll continue to move ahead with it. Once again, I’ll certainly help anyone else willing to take the lead in organizing a “Velocity event” outside of our area provided that there’s sufficient owner interest. I believe that surveys are a good way to get input and very importantly, share the results with everyone in a clear manner. Please note that by design, after three consecutive years, we are moving off of the Chesapeake to a different location in 2007. So keep that in mind and let’s try to keep other suggested locations within roughly a three-hour tow of North East, MD. So here’s the 2007 Velocity Fest Planning Survey. Absolutely call me or write me directly if you like as well. The survey will be available on-line for one week from now so you’ll need to get your vote in to be counted. I’ll share the results with you next week. http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB225SVDLJ5KB Rick Engstrom Velocity Owners Group 215-654-0756 Home |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
Guys, I hope we can have a velocity only fun run somewhere in between. Our event has grown to the point we can not do the run as we did this year. We are expecting in excess of 100 boats this year for the LKN fun run as we have multiple boat manufacturers backing. I would like to have a Velocity only Fun Run on the Lake as well. This year was by far the best I have ever been assoicated with. With Velocity as our primary sponsor and a Grand Tour of Dale Earnhardt Inc. the Velocity Group could have not been better complimented. We hope to include as many Velocity Owners next year as possible and hopefully extend some of the same benefits as this past year. We have many connections with Nascar and could provide many tours, etc for our companions. We are already in the planning stages with our connections for the upcoming year. I will be in touch with Rick in the coming months as to what we have accomplished. Thanks, Steve

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
I think that A.C. run sounds like fun. What happens in A.C.stays in A.C.
We could find another place for 08 ,then it would be back to the cheasapeake in 09. |

2007 Velocity Fest Planning Survey Results
We had 12 people complete the survey which is a very good response rate given our relatively small group size. Thanks for all the comments, suggestions and encouragement! Here’s what the survey revealed and what the go forward plan will be: 1. 11 out of 12 (92%) would like Velocity Fest again next year in the region. We will hold a 2007 Velocity Fest. 2. The most popular course length is “100 to 125 miles” - 5 votes (45%). We had 3 votes (27%) each for “Less then 75 miles” and from “75 miles to 100 miles”. We’ll target approximately 100 miles for our course length. 3. The most popular maximum towing distance is “Up to 200 miles” with 5 votes (42%). We had 2 votes each for the longest “400+ miles” and the shortest “Up to 50 miles” and 3 votes for “Up to 400 miles”. Let’s plan on a 200 mile radius from North East, MD - depending on our respective home locations - the actual towing distance will be longer for some and shorter for others. 4. It looks like we’ll see a strong turnout at the Lake Norman (8 votes - 73%) and Rock the Bay (7 votes - 64%) Runs next year! 5. We had 7 people interested in getting together at the Nauti-Goose for dinner over the winter so we’ll schedule that. This will be useful for working out the date and details for Velocity Fest 2007 to be held in ….. 6. ATLANTIC CITY, NJ! The Atlantic City Overnight trip dominated the voting with 6 out 11 (55%) first choice votes. There was 1 vote for the Hudson, 2 votes for Lewes, DE and 2 write-in suggestions - The Patuxent/Potomac Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay again! The most popular second choice was Philadelphia with 3 votes. Philadelphia will be the alternate in the unlikely event that Atlantic City will not work out. 7. Other suggested 2007 Velocity Fest locations include Lake Ana which is in a 200 mile range for most and Smith Mountain Lake which is out of a 200 mile range for most. Other Virginia locations include Norfolk and Richmond which are in range. 8. In addition to the survey input, four people took time out to speak with me directly. A common element of their input was to have a “rotation” of Velocity Fest locations - perhaps a cycle of 3 or 4 different locations. The consensus was that last July’s course was definitely a keeper and the clear expectation is that Atlantic City will be also. So that leaves 1 or 2 more locations to be included in the rotation. We’ll vote again next year for a new 2008 location. Once again, thanks for your input and I hope to see many of you during the off-season. Rick Engstrom |
Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
Rick, you're the man. Stats are what I do for a living and you are using them perfectly. Whatever you all decide, I'll do my best to make it to as many events as possible. My only holdup right now is figuring out what I do for power in 2007.

Re: Velocityfest 2007 (unofficial)
Sorry guys, I have been extremely busy the last of Dec and all of January. I will start work on my end right away.
I have had several people ask for either Lake Norman or Smith Mountain Lake for the Velocity Fest. Either one suits me fine. You guys are about 200 miles away and we are about 200 miles away. I am not sure if there are any noise or speed limits on SML or not. Someone can check on this. I have Ricks calendar so we can come up with a good date for all. |
