Well in this case old school and big tubes dont fit,,,,,Im sure the OP will get it figured out

Worst part is the tubes fit perfectly on the motors I used to supply the measurements. I just blew it when it came to not knowing the AFR heads moved the exhaust ports. Lesson learned.

it don't matter if its ur 1rst resto or have done 100
always will run into the unexpected when making changes or upgrades as no 1 can foresee everything as a human
just part of it,,,,,so don't beat urself up over it ,,,simple fix,,,,,
still need to ck to find true clearance needed as when take to a machine shop to cut,,,want to do and pay 1 time,,,,lol
if still have a stock head there may check the port outlet and see if theres an angle difference also will give u more insight on what to do
and as stated angle cut will take off less material to make clearance
I said old school as in our older car days with sb production style head/;port design days we had to do this with the adaptors
as have built a few headers for sb using the adaptors,,,,,,

Wow.
That sucks dude. Sorry to read this.

Sounds like you're on your way to the solution though.
I was thinking wood patterns for new flange patterns too.

Cant wait to see this at the Casino, or passing me on way to it ;)

Great info and I like the idea about the board and square to figure out exactly what I need to remove. According to earlier post, math suggests under .400 total so .200 each side. I could do .100 from plate on head and .100 on header flange and possibly have what I need.

More work to do.

And, you are right about the purpose of the flange on the head. No way to get headers like these with water jackets on a small block head without this trick. These are not really old school as they were just built custom for the application by Lightning. The issue is with the guy that did the measurements. I measured everything they needed with stock heads and these .25 raised exhaust ports were not considered. My bad completely.

Making some progress. Much wiring is complete, steering is all installed at helm, ignition switches, kill switches, coils mounted, carburetors installed, etc... Still have 45 items on my list but really feeling like it could happen some time this summer.

I haven't been around in a while! Priorities are always messed up... work, family, then the boat... And there she sits. trying to get back at it! I'm in Ohio.

Recently completed controls / cables for throttle and shift linkage. Hoping I got the shift linkage correct on my Merctrans. I can't seem to find anything that tells me if up or down is forward. Much of the starboard side gauge panel is done. Still have my header issue to deal with but at least I'm chipping some small stuff away.

Curious....do you have a 2nd boat? I can't imagine working on a boat for 15 years and not being able to get out on the water! Keep it up it looks great!

Yes, I have a Yamaha Jetboat that we use to tool around, go to sand bar, islands, etc... Also a couple jetskis. Not a 'Real' boat though :)
