Cool CIG3! I spoke with Scott a long time ago and he said he might have some old pics and even video. I would so much love to get my hands on those! I'm taking the boat back out to XT Innovations next week to have the interior fitted. Not exactly the order we planned but my rigging work is near stalled so we can at least get all the pieces in one place.

Any progress? Love to see how she is coming along. Check the classic forum. We are having an offshore reunion at Sawmill Creek in March.

Transformation
It has been a long time. This could possibly be the longest build thread of all time? I now need to get plumbing, electrical, steering, throttles, motors, oh my. Lots of work still to do and now it is on me completely. Feeling motivated though.
Found that I have a slightly twisted propshaft on LH TRS drive so need to deal with that. If anyone has one, let me know! Drives looking good in new paint thanks to dad and brother! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K...2/IMG_8220.JPG |
Looking GOOD!
Bring that bad boy to Buffalo for the Poker Run! Padraig |
Is that carpet or some other type of flooring in the cockpit? Looks nice. Actually everything looks great!

That boat looks awesome!

XT innovations recommended this carbon fiber look weave for flooring. It is padded back and waterproof. I LOVE it.

Not sure this will give a good perspective but if feels good on the feet and looks great. It seems like it will be SUPER durable and SUPER easy to keep clean as it is a kind of vinyl I think...
Reach out to Dave at XT Innovations at 419-569-1984. He will know best as I know it is becoming a popular choice for his jobs. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k...c42/carpet.jpg To give you perspective, this is about a 3X4 inch view so the patter is really pretty small. |

Yep, Infinity sounds familiar.

Glad to see she is coming along. Keep up the good work. This was the first race boat I ever got to ride in back in the early eighties.
|
just came across this thread. Wow is that a cool looking boat. I never saw a Velocity that looked like this. I love the classic lines. What a beautiful resto job!

Thanks. I do think she is coming along nice and also love the lines. I also plan to add the original p-18 number:

This is a good demonstration of the transformation in the cockpit.

Is the dash and driver's position further aft on the race hulls than the cabin hulls?
|
I don't believe there is a significant difference. I have seen dash setups that vary a bit (mine now being most unique). I think they are all the same though.
|
Thanks for feedback. Yes, 2 tachs and a flat panel gps display. I believe I'll end up with shifters on left and throttles on right. Not positive on that layout yet as I need to do some experimenting.

How is the boat coming?
|
Very slowly as usual. Have made some minor progress though. I have my wiring harness all routed to the engine bay. I have engine room lights hooked up to make it easier to work.
I have the engine hatch lift all figured out I think. Placed order yesterday so should have it by the end of the week so I can actually get in and out of engine compartment. Still trying to figure out my emergency access if batteries are dead. Any good suggestions? Maybe just plug into shorepower as my only real backup to get in? I could always hot wire a battery to the hatch lift switch too. |
Is there a way to rig pins that you can pull from somewhere with the hatch closed, disconnecting the linkage to the rams?
|

On my 280 there is a piece of u channel between the ram and hatch. I can lift the front of the hatch up about 4" to get my hand in to pull the pin out to get in in an emergency. I can take a picture the next time I have the boat cover off.
|
I add a trolling motor plug under the seat wired directly to the lift motor. Easy to connect a jump box or charger. I always carry hand held jump box just incase there is a problem.

underpsi68 I have seen this solution. I'm sure I'm being optimistic, but I'm worried about the hatch lifting at speed, especially with the scoops.
Cig3 - BOOM! This is the idea I was looking for. Easy and effective. Ordering now - THANKS! Worst case scenario, I could pull someone's battery and set it in the boat to get hatch up but I do like the jump box. Only thing this doesn't address is if the lift actually fails. Still might find a way to get to the pin from under seat. Maybe even a little cable I can yank. |

I was looking for this some years back for a customers boat, and I found a post by Member Panther, where he did this to his Apache. Brilliant ! Customer did not want me to do this, in the end, so I have no pics. If you can't find the post (the search suks on OSO), I would PM him. Very nice and helpful guy! |

My 22 has the same set up. It serves two purposes... allows access if no power, and in my case, lifts the hatch about 6' higher than the ram will lift it.

I would definitely like pics of this setup. Any issues with hatch bouncing or lifting up while under power?
|
If you have a cigarette lighter socket you can also make a plug and back feed it through a booster battery.
