Default New 540

Oops, while trying to delete one of my old posts, I actually deleted the whole thread. I'll repost the pics.

Thruhull,
My builders name is Pat Reiter. He lives off of Rt. 5 in Southern MD. He boats on the patuxent and has built engines for a bunch of the locals here. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Oh Deere,

In the pic below, you can see that there is already a cutout in my hatch to allow for more space. I don't think its going to be an issue since i had plently of room with the old engine.

Thanks Shore Thing, I am exploring my options in upgrading the power in my 260. I am located just across the line in VA not far over the 301 bridge, so Pat might be an option for me. Keep me posted on the progress and results!

it isn't finished yet, but he built one to the same specs previously and it made around 650hp.

Its a 502 punched to 540 with merlin III heads, eagle rotating assembly, and a dominator 1050 carb. We're still waiting on some parts to come in and still cleaning up some of the stuff off my 454 that will be transferred over. In the pictures the bottom half looks black, but its actually a metallic graphite looking paint that looks awesome, but doesn't show in my cameraphone pics.

I had gil exhaust on my old engine but one of the manifolds failed, got reversion, and prompted this engine build. My risers are still ok, so im considering getting new gils or the hardin marine cyclone shorty's. Anyone have any experience with the cyclones? I'm trying not to kill the bank since i wasnt planning on building an engine this year, it just became the right thing to do after the old engine failed.

SS,

This Spring we're going to go out and test a bunch of props. With the old setup I ran both a 26" and a 25" hydromotive QIV. I'll let you know once we get some results in. I'd be interested in hearing what prop you're running as everyone i talk to about velocities are split. Half like the hydro's and half like the bravo's. My fuel tank is 60 gallons, which equates to about 20 minutes of run time with this new engine. Good luck with your new boat. Mine is a 1995, I'll see what pics i can dig up on this computer.
