I am currently working numbers locally on the purchase of a 2002 Velocity 260 any current owners have advice they would like to offer?

I say buy it. They are a blast to drive. More HP the better

The 260's are great! Most fun I have had with any boat. If it does not have tabs, you should put them on. Big HP is best, but you can alway beef up what you find.
