VR-1 vs. 290SC

Hey guys,
Thinking about getting one fo these boats for next summer. Can anybody tell me what the difference is between these 2 models?
Thanks.

as far as my understanding goes, the VR-1 is just a cut down 290SC. the VR-1 is also a better performer.

for the family - 290sc

for performance - VR-1

Depends on what you want to do with the boat.

Gotcha. Now I can tell by looking at pictures side by side. Of course I would go VR-1, but the grilfriend likes the bathroom on the SC!

Don't worry about the enclosed head. If your anything like the majority of us, you will never use it anyway.

Get the boat you like, not the one the girlfriend likes. Girls are much easier to find then boats!

The 290 SC is OK if you want a Sea Ray,get the VR1 and have a porta poty on hand that way she can still take care of buisness.:D

Drive both if you can! The center of gravity of the VR-1 is MUCH lower than the 290SC. The 290SC tends to "roll" side to side and fall off of the pad much easier. In my opion, the 496 mag HO isn't enough power for the 290SC.... it's too hard to keep it on the pad when you're trimed out. In a poker run situation, this can be sometimes scary to passengers. If you have any interest in running poker runs, the VR-1 is deffinently the right boat.

Also, their are some construction differences between the two: the 290SC has balsa coring in the hull, whereas the VR-1 is completely composite.

As mentioned earlier.... no one ever uses the enclosed head. A buddy of mine just built his 2nd 290SC (he has a small baby) and had the factory omit the head altogether to save weight. My wife and I took out the porta potti from our VR-1 after the first season.... I can almost always find her a private place to go off of the back of the boat (sometimes that can be a fun adventure!).

Let me know if you're interested in a really nice used VR-1.... I don't think you'll find another one as nice.

Good luck!

I saw your boat for sale in the classifieds. We love the different paint. Definitely something we would be interested in...only problem is location. I'll be in Key West for the worlds and then Miami the week afterwards. Already mapquested you...you're 4 hours away...
