03-39 500efi speed handling
 

looking at 03 39 velocity 500efi im told around 85mph has anyone procharged one or put ext.box,imco lowers.I want
to build 100mph boat but I want to do it right 1st time.I feel this hull is probly one of the lighter hulls to use.Thanks in advance for any info.

85 is possible with the 500 EFI's. One 390 Velocity in our area was set up with Whipples on some 500 carb motors and ran right around 100, the carb deal was a little tricky to dial in, the EFI Whipple set up works real well though. The owner of the boat traded it for a 38 Fountain with 575 sci's, low 90's stock then add a chiller and you're at 100+.

From what I've seen and heard over the years extension boxes don't work well on Velocities, and would likely not gain you much in the speed department. More often than not good bottom design has more to do with a hulls ability to run well than a feather weight lay up. Fountains new Stagered 35 ICBM Lightning easily runs over 100 with Merc 525's, it weighs in dry at 9200 lbs. Add some fuel and a couple average guys and that's 10,000 lbs moving at that speed with stock Merc power.

Thanks for info I am in a 05 29 fever 525efi boat now Im wanting to trade up something I can hop up and run over 100mph safley the 29 will be little unsafe ,need more FT rough water I enjoy pokerruns but with 29 limitted.I want to stay under 150K range.

You only need 650-700 hp to break 100 mph. If the boat is set up right. All my 390s ran 85/88 mph with 500s my stag. boat ran 92 with 565 hp 500 efis. We allway raised the x 1 in. over fact. but you nead to run 5 blade hydros. With a full race lab.Thare are a bunch more tricks but thats classified !!!

you know he is asking about the 39 Velocity not a fountain oh and the 39 with 700's runs 115 the fountain 38 which is a 33 foot boat runs 114. i guess i just don't understand why you fill like you have to stay on here and bash velocities why don't you go play in the fountain owners section and stop slinging:hitfan:

I personally agree slightly. Ragged experiences are educational for those considering velocities. Although....there is no need to attempt to sway to another manufacturer. ALL manufacturers have flaws in some aspect of their vessels. I say we all just :ernaehrung004:

And the 35 Fountain wont run 100+ everyday, all day. I was surprised on the speeds of the 39 with 700's. Very good. Just an off topic question, how does the boat handle over 105??

i can't answer that as i have not been in the boat , i have seen it run faster then that and i know people that have been in the boat at over 105 and they told me it is on rails. as for the 35 fountain i am with you we went by one last year at the toys for tots run at 108 and he was not even close

I can answer that as I have been in one at those speeds, and of all the Velocity models, were I looking for one to go 100+ in, the 390 would likely be the choice.

The staggered 35 Fountain is a new 2008 model realeased at the dealer show earlier this year. The side by side 07 and earlier models are 10 - 15 mph slower. I believe I said it runs 100+. Any 108 mph boat should, common sense would have it, go by a boat that runs 100 or slightly over.

And where in the prior post did I say anything chitty about your Velocities?

I have driven the 39 with the full-stagger 700's. With 5 people & 1/2 gas it was running 105 without extensive trimming (they were still dialing in the props). To me, it handles just like my boat (29' VR-1). I felt completely comfortable driving the boat and was surprise how stable and manuveuable it was at over 100.

If I was able to build a 100+ Velocity, the 39 full-stagger would definently be my only choice.
