fellas, I have a silly question, at least i think so..
still havn't started the the motor yet, the new replacement MSD Box is on it's way.. but here it is, after having the motor rigged and drive put back on, and all lines connected, i never thought to turn the wheel, i don't think the drive is turning when i turn the wheel. i have hydraulic steering and i haven't filled the canister as yet, would this be the reason or should i be looking for something else..:eek: |
Do you have external steering pistons?
If yes, then you need to bleed out the air in the system. |

I might need a short tutorial.. here r some pics with the steering system. when i brought the boat it was alreaedy installed, so i'm abit clueless ..also the drive is facing off center, so would have to straighten it, then bleed the lines, then add oil..Thanks, as u can see, i need help here..lol thanks |
The easiest way I have found is to first fill the power steering pump res. Then start it up and spin the steering wheel back and forth a couple of times. Then shut down and refill the res and repeet. The oil may get foamy so you may have to wait in between. If you have help, you can fill the res while the engine is running and have your helper spin the wheel back and forth.

Yes you have an external piston steering system.
It will use the powersteering pump on the engine and the hydraulic helm behind the steering wheel at the dash. |

Do i heed to bleed the lines once i add the fluid and start the motor, and how can i tell if it's air in the lines, and if so how do i rectify it. also am i just adding the fluid starting, letting the motor run for a while, and turning wheel from left to right slowly a few times..top up more fluid and repeat process. Yes fill the pump, sart the engine, spin it back a forth, then shut down. Don't run the pump dry or it will cook.
You are going to have air in all the lines and it will take 3-4 times of filling and running to get it all out. You will be able to move the drive by hand if there is still air in the lines. |
