This boat has surfaced for sale in the Las Vegas area. I just put a deposit on it this afternoon. Selling price $18,000 and $1,00 to transport to Michigan. According to the broker, the top of the seats are "sun damaged" as well as the rubber floor is discolored. Other than that the broker states it is in excellent shape. It now has an IMCO lower unit on it as opposed to the OEM Bravo that is on the pics in this thread. Being as I am buying this boat sight, unseen....... If any of you guys know the history of this boat it would be greatly appreciated before I pull the trigger on this thing later in the week. At $18,000 it seem like a pretty decent deal, even if the seats are trashed, however I have been told they are in decent shape except for the "burning" on the tops. I am guessing a bit of vinyl dye would get me through a season or so...

Velocity Vector 01-03-2010 06:25 AM

I'd say $1.00 to ship it is a heck of a deal

I forgot a 0..... its $1,000 to ship from Vegas to MI.

86Rette 01-03-2010 02:16 PM

Where in MI are you? Seems like a really good deal for the boat as long as the motor is ok.

Velocity Vector 01-03-2010 03:39 PM

Have a survey done it will save you 1000's if somethings wrong. Trust me on the is one. You can easiely drop 5K on small stuff like a drive or engine problem then you are to deep and mad.

I am in Wyandotte (Downriver). I do most of my boating on the Detroit River, with a few trips to PIB and Muskamoot Bay mixed in. I have an 84 Baja Force 250 w/260 merc right now. It is in really good shape, but I am tired of the amount of up keep involved with a boat that age, constant polishing, refinishing teak, etc... I really love the looks of older boats like my Baja, especially the look of teak.

Ran a Boat History report and everything showed clear. Not really sure how accurate these reports are..... But figured for $30, if something showed up there, then no reason in spending $500 or so on a survey.....

specialk 01-03-2010 08:23 PM

Sounds like a heck of a deal. You might be a little shocked when you see what that hot sun does cosmetically to a boat. The sun fading you get here in the midwest is nothing compared to what the UV rays do over there. Seems like you should be in it cheap enough though.

They sent me pics of the damaged areas (top of seats and floor). I plan to put carpet in anyway, so the discoloring to the floor doesn't bother me at all. The disoloration to the top of the seats is pretty nasty, but the rest of each seat looks new. I figure I can drop some white vinyl dye on the damaged areas and get it looking decent. If not, it is winter here in Michigan, so I could just have the seats recovered if necessary. The pics of the sun deck (motor cover) look good, except the area at the top of the rear seat. The rest of the rear seats look good. At the price, I am expecting the worst and hoping for the best....... NADA is around $31k without trailer, so if I'm in it for $18 and have to spend a couple grand cosmetically, I'm still looking good. The cabin pics look like a brand new boat, so no money will need to be spent there.

RAAZ227 01-06-2010 10:16 PM

I've been keeping my eye on this boat for a while and I mean a while. I still don't understand why it took so long to sell. Looks like it's in a good shape.

I agree with the survey. Good luck and have fun!

low_psi 01-13-2010 10:16 PM

Well I went ahead and bought it. I decided to take the chance and buy it without getting a survey....... I had the dealership winterize and shrink wrap it for me. Should be one its way to Michigan soon. I will see soon if my gamble pays off.................................

Jon H 01-14-2010 04:30 AM

Congratulations, i hope she turns out to be good.

low_psi 01-21-2010 02:04 PM

Still waiting for the boat to be delivered...... Actually still waiting for it to be picked up by transport company...

Not that I'd be able to use here in the Detroit River:o

what ever 01-21-2010 09:40 PM

Lets see some new pics when you get it.
Should be good boat ,I bought 02 last year. love it
Looked at this one a few times.

low_psi 02-03-2010 10:22 PM

It arrived yesterday, just in time for a new snow fall. After it's trip across the US it was a bit dirty. It's shrink wrapped for the winter so I will have to wait till spring to see the cockpit and cabin......

I talked to someone @ Velocity a few weeks back becasue I was a bit curious about the solid white paint. As I was looking at other Velocities, I had never seen one without some sort of graphics. From what I was told it is pretty rare to have an all white hull, as it was a special order per customers request.

The all white hull looks really nice in person, pics really don't do it justice.

When this boat was originally posted in this thread it had the OE Bravo upper and lower and looked to be pretty pitted. Since then it has had the upper rebuilt and an IMCO lower. I was told the the upper now has XR gears..... The upper unit case does have some pitting, but for the price I cannot complain.

Looks like a great deal. A little soap and water she will clean right up.

mikes280 02-04-2010 07:37 PM

that lower is a sportmaster by merc not a imco, there is 3 mph in it if you have the skag cut to the same size as a stock bravo skag

Yeah, it has been bought to my attention in another thread that the lower is a sportmaster. It looks to be a -2. I will see how it runs before I screw with it. I don't run my boats at full throttle often, I usually have my wife and daughter with me. So an extra 3 MPH, may not be worth it to me. I'm just happy to have a boat that can cruise efficiently at 50 mph, instead of topping out @ 50 (as my baja 250)

Pat McPherson 02-05-2010 06:42 AM

Nice boat! Love the all White.
Great deal! You stole her.
Good Luck! The family will love her.

You may consider selling that sports master lower and go with a stock unit. Don't modify it unless you're keeping it. I have not read that anyone has gained with a short lower on these boats.
If you do deside to sell the lower, I have a bud with a 29' Fountain looking for one.

I would definatly be intersted in selling!! As long as I can sell it for enuff $$ to buy a fresh stock lower. The sportmaster on this boat is fresh I was told it was just put on the boat for the sale as the OE lower was all pitted. If he is interested in it have him shoot me an offer!

low_psi 03-05-2010 10:18 AM

I got a chance to crawl underneith the boat yesterday. As the pitting on the upper unit (which I was aware of) showed the boat was left in the water at one point. The bottom of the boat is loaded with barnicle remains.... They are caked on there pretty good. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the bottom side of the hull, except for one small gel coat chip up towards the front (simple repair)

I am going to have the marina put it up on block for me so I can start scraping the bottom.... Any advice on how to loosen the barnicle remains?

Guess that's what I get for buying sight unseen.. But at $18,000 a little elbow greese is to be expected.

Jon H 03-05-2010 12:55 PM

Pressure washer only. It may take some time but it wont scratch the gelcoat.

Pat McPherson 03-05-2010 01:57 PM

Plastic putty knife and lots of water; hot water if possible. Hot water through a pressurewasher is best. Stay away from acid washes like Marykate because they will turn the bottom yellow.

low_psi 03-07-2010 05:08 PM

Pulled the shrink wrap off today... Here is the good and the bad. As with any boat purchased without survery and sight unseen the will be some issues not disclosed.. Here is what I have found today.

Good:
Seat Vinyl, although discolored is still soft and plyable. There is no cracking or tearing so some vinyl dye should have them looking very good.
The Cabin is in really good shape, just needs the average cleaning.
Cockpit cover is in much better shape than it was described, but I am putting a full length cover on it anyway.
It fires right up and all gauges work correctly.

The Bad:
The floor looks like crap, but I plan to put carpet in anyway.
The Hull has a small amount of dock rash, but since the boat is all white it isn't noticable until right on top of it.
The rub rail has a slight bend in it on the left side of boat.
One of the Outdrive trim cylinder hoses is cracked and leaking.
The white powder coating is coming off of the seat boltsters
Looks like on of the poles on the drivers bolster is bent slightly, which caused some of the powdercoat to flake off.
There is WAY TOO MUCH play in the steering wheel... It appears to be in the housing behind the dash, not in the OD. ANy Ideas??

Overall I am please, given the price I paid.

Jon H 03-08-2010 01:37 AM

If the steering is hydraulic the system may need bleeding.

low_psi 03-08-2010 11:02 AM

Well, from what I can tell so far the cable is junk. It is hard as hell to turn. SO I am going to replace the cable first. Then we will see if the helm unit is junk or not....

low_psi 03-08-2010 05:10 PM

As seen in the first pics of this thread, the tops of the seats were looking pretty rough. I spent about 30 min to clean the passenger seat with some thinner (which removed a majority of the crap that was on the seat. Once cleaned it looked pretty good, but not to my liking. So after a few coats of vinyl dye it looks almost like new....

low_psi 03-09-2010 10:25 PM

When the boat was delivered it was HEAVILY Oxidized.... If you can see heavy oxidation on white paint, you know its bad... I swear the previous owner must have hit every dock. There was not a spot on the rub rail that had not hit something. Anyway. After busting my butt over the last 2 days (I have to take it somewhat easy as I am not even 1 year into recovery from back surgery) I was able to get it polished up pretty good. Using some elbow grease I was able to remove most of the rash on the rub rail as well. And, yes I know, the Velocity Sticker on the front is missing. Its a work in progress.

Basically I used the mineral spirits to remove the crud that was on top of the vinyl. I would NOT suggest using Mineral spirits to clean vinyl unless it is heavily damaged like my seats were. As it also removed the color, but the color was shot on mine anyway. I had to be very carefull to not damage the vinyl. In order to use the Vinyl Dye and have it last the vinyl surface has to be very clean to allow the dye to penetrate. Otherwise it will just sit on top like paint, and will wear off, crack, etc.

So far so good. I will be pulling the seats out this week. This will allow better access.
