Proppin my 29 VR1
Any body else go through this with a VR1. I would like to buy less then 10 props. I have a 27 Hydromotive P5 prop. 30 quad4 and a used rough 28 Bravo that seems to be the best. I figure the more bow lift it gives is helping out. Anybody run a left hand wheel. Looking to try one next. Looking to sell or swap some of my others. The Bravo got me 81.6@5250 first time out. 30 was 79.2@4900 27 P5 was 80.2@5100.

I ran a lh b1 30p and didn't notice any difference from the same prop rh other than the boat listed to the starboard instead of the port. It was also before my blueprinting.

In your shoes, I'd take that used 28p B1 and send it to BBlades.
Tell Brett you want 2-300 rpm extra and more bow lift with less trim. Brett knows your boat... |
Left him a massage. I wish I had got the right prop from Hydromotive to begin with. I hate having a thousand dollar prop that doesnt meet my needs. The others I bought used so it didnt hurt as much. Why they told me to go with a stern lifting 5 blade is beyond me. I figured they new better then me. But for another $400+ they would rework it and MAYBE it would work better. Great slip factor @7% but not what I needed.

Great prop slip 7%. Leave the prop alone and start adding HP

He's got a 600HP/496 so he needs to get the rpm up to 55-5600 to make max power. I think a labbed 28p B1 or 26P P5-X will do the trick. My 280 ran 82-84mph with a 650Hp/540. The VR1 is lighter and has less windage so with 600HP he should see 85+. |
I have a 509 with 600hp @the crank, less P/S and a water pump.I estimate 530-540
The boat holds a kilo record of about 82-83 with an hp500, 470@the prop. Keep in mind it has only about 5 hrs test time after the boat has been rigged. and my trim pump was bad so I had to let off to trim up. Thinking the Bravo1 to Brett is the way to go. but I still want to try as many props as I can.

I'd also try to get Hydro to swap that P5 for a P5-X. I think the P5 is only really good on a Cat. |
I tried talking to them. Like I said for an exrta $400 they MIGHT be able to make it work better. No trades, No deals. I didnt even get a hub kit when I bought it.
