MomaPoppa, very well said.
Best of luck to all the Still Crazy crew. The boat looks awesome! We raced P class back in the day & knew Mike, he was one of the good guys. |

How did it run? What kind of speeds are you getting out of it now?
|
Here she is on Friday, 6/10. This was the first time she had been put in the water and the boys were seeing what she could do! They got her up to about 85, with 150 gallons of gas in her.

Hi!
An amazing amazing tread. Congratulations from Norway. Cheeers and thanks :) Toffen |
This is video from when we first took off. I took it with my phone, and was trying to hold on with one hand, but it gives you a taste of what it is like to ride in Stillcrazy!

CONGRATULATIONS!! And thanks for sharing!!
In the video you can sense the excitment-the same excitment of when Still Crazy raced!!! Hopefully you can "feel" why Mike and Dick loved this sport. |
Congrats and God Bless the family & her crew.

Mike and Jordan,
You have done a fantastic job on the restoration process of Still Crazy. It looks as good as it did in the early eighties when it sat outside our shop between races, for engine swaps. As previously noted, Mike and Dick Fullam indeed two of the good guys and they would be very proud of your accomplishments. Larry and Doug Fetters Fetters Racing Engines |
The boat turned out amazing. Im glad i got to see it with the paint back on it. Im happy i was able to help you guys out for the day. It was good to see you guys again and congratulations.

I think your crew certainly had the biggest smiles on ALL DAY on Saturday. Glad you joined us.
If you go to my video thread there is a few seconds of you running under the Buckman bridge at the 2:50 mark of the video labeled "2nd group". You got some sweet air crossing our wake right at that moment. Welcome to the Poker Run Addiction Club. |

Dear Jordan and Mike (my dear son and nephew),
The Still Crazy race boat equaled the death of my beloved brother and the pain and suffering I witnessed our family endure for many years. I had no good feelings toward that boat. MamaPoppa (aka Mom + Aunt Janine) I know my mom was not referring to the Still Crazy Velocity race boat when she wrote the above, just want to clarify for those that don't know the particulars that the boat my uncle Mike died in was the 38' Cougar Catamaran and not the Velocity that we restored, which he raced for two years before his death. I would not have put the enormous effort, time, money and heart into restoring the Cougar as it only stands for loss and hurt to my family. The Velocity on the other hand, stood for a bright period in his life when he was racing with good friends and when two of his kids were born. Restoring the Still Crazy Velocity has been a dream since day one and will at least for me, forever keep the memory of my uncle's life alive and his desire to live life to the fullest. Thank you again to everyone that has chimed in and tracked our progress. You certainly haven't seen the last from us as we still haven't finished the boat completely. I look forward to updates as we dial her in, and look forward to meeting and talking to many more of you at runs and events in the future. I'd also like to thank my beautiful wife Tanya, who has seen her husband only a handful of times on the weekend for the last eight months. I was motivated to finish the boat by a lot of things, but one of the biggest was the desire to get it done so I could get back to enjoying life with her. Without her unbelievable understanding and unconditional support, we certainly wouldn't be where we are today. Here's some photos from the weekend. One of the bests thread on OSO. My Dad was a friend of Mike and raced with him back in the 80's. GREAT job with this boat!
|
Just awsome guys! What an amazing story and wonderful reason to bring this one home! Way to go!
|
Thanks for sharing!
|
I really don't think anyone could write a better restoration story. I have to admit my heart sank a little that first time I went to the yard and StillCrazy was gone; I got to see it every time I was there. But seeing this thread, and now seeing it restored back to it's former glory....this is just awesome.
Even if you don't participate in the Bimini Challenge or the poker run, consider dragging it over here and running around for the weekend. Congratulations guys, great job!!! |
Congratulations on an inspiring story and a great job! Looks like the ol' girl turned out awesome. This has been one of my all time favorite threads to follow and should have been the restoration story that Matt Trulio was looking for.
Do you have any before photos to show what you started with 8 months ago? Best of luck with her, Rick |

Great job guys, you deserve every minute of running that boat.
|
Awesome story, boat looks great. I also agree it's one of the best threads on the board.
Great work! :drink: |
Congrats on the boat and hope to see it in person sometime
|
You guys did a great job bringing her back to life!! Congrats!!
|
We all had a great time at the Jacksonville River Rally, which was the first poker run for Mike, Kelly and my wife Tanya. Bill Pyburn Sr. generously offered us free entry into the run and not only came through with that, but picked us up across town at 1am when my truck broke down! Also like to thank Kevin Brady (sp) who got up early to help us launch the boat and get ready for the run.
Bill and his crew put on an awesome event that everyone should be so lucky to attend. Next year we'll have the kinks worked out and make it before Saturday morning! |
Mike and Jordan,
Congrats of a job very well done! The restoration turned out fantastic and all associated with the project should be insanely proud!!! I wish you both many years of happiness with the boat and I look forward to seeing the story continue to progress. Again, congrats... |
This thread made my eyes watery. Not sure if its because we just had our first boy 5 weeks ago but thank you.
There's something to be proud here guys! |
This has got to be the best thread I've ever read!
You guys have something to be proud of! Thanks for taking me back to my younger years! |
I would stand in the office at velocity and stare at the picture of that boat flying through the air and wonder whatever happen to it. Now we now!
|
Wow, the comments from everyone really mean a lot. When we first got the boat back and started this it was a super personal thing, but after seeing the excitement from others when they found out what we were doing and then deciding to start this thread, it has really been awesome to be able to share the journey with so many people. There are so many negative things in society today - just turn on the news, so I think it's refreshing for people to see something positive for a change. Hopefully our story will inspire others to take on projects that mean the world to them, or at least make them smile for a few minutes. After all, it just takes dedication and hard work.....and sanding and sanding and sanding.....:D
|
Thank you for taking the time to document and share the build with everyone. Quite possibly the best thread ever on OSO.

Hello everybody!
We spent this past Saturday learning to drive and throttle Still Crazy from the best - Steve Stepp:coolcowboy: With our new hydromotive 15.5x31 5 blades, on flat fresh water and up against the limiters, this is what we ran:evilb: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3276/...2511b876b8.jpg 2011-06-25_11-13-06_776 by JordanPoppa, on Flickr We are really happy with that number since these are our non-labbed, everyday props. More importantly, the boat handles like a dream and the setup seams perfect so far. Hopefully with some 34's we'll see triple digits! Needless to say it was of the best experiences of our lives as we spent all morning learning to to trim and drive on Lake Monroe and then headed to New Smyrna to get our first chance to jump some waves. Running hard in the ocean is an absolutely addictive blast and we can't wait to get out there again to practice and learn. What an awesome sport:drink: |
