260 Speaker placement???
 

Where do you guys with 260's mount your speakers and amps? I just have the stock speakers currently installed under the back seat (2 of them). Was planning on putting a sealed sub forward of the porta-potty, and want to have at least a set of 4 good speaker in the cockpit.

Im floatin a 290 but it shouldnt matter. I have 6.5s on sides of back seat above arm rest/drink holder. Then a pair of 7.7s infront and behind the front seats in the side panels about hip high. 3 10s under the back seat. I have seen subs under the dash facing at your shins if you sit in the front seats(above foot rests) but not heard that set up. I dont know about a sub in the cabin either, probly wouldnt work for my taste. On the hatch actuator, it sounds like the way mine is set up. I dont care for it at all and will relocate a better set up next winter. Scroll through the 290sc repossessed thread for some pics.

Based on recommendations on here, I bought my stereo system today. 2 pairs of JL Audio 7.7's. A JL audio amp M4300. Alpine CDA-9886M. And a 10-inch Bazooka 250 Watt amplified tube. I think I should be good to go with this set-up. Not the loudest out there, but should sound good. The two speakers under the rear seat will be replaced with one pair, and I will install the other pair right behind the front seats. The amp should attach to the cabin wall where the head unit is, and the Bazooka will fit (I hope) under the rear seat.

Any suggestions or recommendations? Or did I just hose this up? Lol!

I'm not a big fan of speakers under the back seat unless its just subs. Towel bag,coolers,carry on type stuff seems to muffle them. They won't project the sound out if boat well either....when coved out. The tubes sound good. Its all about if you like it when its done. Good luck and happy install.

Maybe I will re-think the placement of the speakers in the rear seat. It already has 2 el-cheapos installed there and I was wanting to just fill the holes. Maybe a few vents down there for moisture control and to let the bass come out would be better. Not sure where I could mount the 7.7's in the front area. In the passenger side should be no problem. But on the drivers side I do not think there is room. Guess I will have to see when they get here. Do you have any pics of your placements?

Ill run by today if I have time. Im filling existing holes and am not done yet. Have the entire system sitting in the cabin ready to install. You wiil see where the holes and locations. The vent in the back seat for base is a good idea. I think you will be much happier.

All speaker holes were for 6.5s the front are now 7.7s (verry tricky on the pass side) and the front pair in the rear are 7.7s. the pair above the arm rests are staying 6.5s as are the ones in the cabin.

Thanks for the pics. I am going to try and use those same locations. I do not have the drink holder on the passenger side, but was thinking of making one. Is there any issues with JL 7.7 speakers and not being in an enclosure? Just installing them in this panels kinda goes against how I have always installed speakers in the past (closed backing, enclosure-like).

Also, this may sound stupid, but how do you hook the JL 7.7's up? There are + and - connections for the woofer and tweeter of each speaker and the diagram is crap..... ???? Do I need to bridge the connections as I am not bi-wiring? Been installing stereos all my life, but never seen that beofre, and the wierd diagram that came with it.....

I am using the M77-CCX-CG-WH speakers they are for open air space use and have a built in cross over and tweeter. One set of + & - wires to each speaker. The cross over and tweeter is prewired from the factory.Tthere is another # for use in a box or sealed area. I spoke with JL and this is what they recomended for me. I have 2 pair of the 7.7, 2 pair of the 6.5, two mw5-10's and 1 10w7 fed from 2 mhd900/5 amps. If you go to the JL site and look at this part number. Should have all the info you need. Super easy to install. I bargain shoped for the items listed and spent about half of the JL site prices. maybe 1/3 off but you can doo cheaper than the web site but make sure to get the warranty. Oh ...All of the JL speakers should be pushed by a good amp. Im around 100 watt each for the smalls, 250 to each mw510 and 500 to the 10w7. nothing bridged.
