My 30 has HP500's, 1.5 bravo xr's with speedmaster lowers turning in. Ran 84 with 5 blade 15.5 x 28 hydromotives and 94 with 15.5 x 31 5-blade hydromotives at 5300 (limiters) with 3 guys and 1/2 fuel on flat fresh water. I think she has more in her as we ran 90 with half fuel and 6 people on board. I just need to get some 33's or 34's and see if we can turn them.
Call Steve up at Velocity and ask him about your set-up...nobody on earth knows how to set up a Velocity better. You're pretty close to 80, some good tweaking and you should get there! |

Ditto on calling Steve. The 5 blade props are needed for high x-dimension or running "shorty" lower units. For standard drive height set-ups, 4 blades work just as well and are easier on the prop shaft.
We went through the basics...drive toe, verifying indicators, prop selection, etc. |

I'm wondering if i seriously need nose cones now, am I not trimming it up enough, or what exactly I need. I have 540 hp - 540 ft/lbs small blocks turning 30 pitch bravo 4 blades to 81 mph.
I have the Drives trimmed to 7-9 (conditions depending) and the tabs 3-5 (conditions again) on the mechanical indicators, so they're is barely any hull in the water and only enough tab to stabilize the "pad walk" (as I call it). If your running 94 mph with HP 500's really curious as to what I'm doing wrong. Hull is a Regal Velocity 30', built in 1989. Might need to email Steve Stepp it seems. |
I definitely recommend nose cones over 80. I added a Hydro-Motive nose cone to my Bravo 1 and the difference is huge, prop bite is much better when running more trim. Handling is much better also, I'm running 90 in a single engine 280.

Trim and tab sound about right. My guess is that you are over-propped for your engines' power-curve. I would assume you need to spin the SBC in the mid to upper 5,000's range to get that kind of peak power. At 81 MPH with a 30" pitch prop you can't be turning anywhere near that unless you have huge slip. Nose cones generally don't add speed in the 80 MPH range so I wouldn't be too hopeful. If you can't increase speed with smaller props then you're likely down on power if the hull is otherwise good.
