I know it had 500 EFI's in it when Velocity Tom owned it. There was even a Hot Boat test published on it ~ Spring 2000 or 2001 I think.

My buddy has a single 496ho with somewheres in the neighborhood of 7-800 hours also with almost zero issues and he runs the living hell out of it. I had a few minor issues with mine with less then 300 hours and I ran it much easier then him. Go figure? Very reliable power and they sound great also. As a matter of fact my friends is for sale on boat trader, I would recommend it to anyone lookin for a 280 velocity it runs real strong.

true 70 mph any day of the week with low 70's in right conditions and it cruises at 50 ish. which I think is great for that boat with mild power.

What is the ride like on the 390? Does it have the pad bottom like the smaller Velocities? I have heard (second or third hand, admittedly) that getting those boats up on the pad and running them there feels a bit like driving on ice. Any truth there?

The 41 has the same bottom , and my old one rode excellent in rough water . They can be a lot of fun in the turns to .
