These are the latest pics of this work in progress. This is the boat that came out of NC. Wrap was removed. Windshield installed. Interior removed. Rub rail removed. Ready to paint. I'll post more as it moves forward.

For sale? Size?
|
Looks like an awesome project; I'll be following its progress.
|
did you buy it from tom
|
Yes, I got it from Tom.
|
Is the "work in progress" being done by velocity?
|

Yes, work is being done at Velocity.
I'm near the factory and wanted to work with Kenny on a project. i've had a bunch of Fountains but this is the first Velocity. Its getting ready for paint. |
Fools Gold
Kenny is good man, he just did some work on my 290sc with a 600 sci , put a whipple stage 2 kit in , went through lower unit. Got boat from 84 to 92mph . Its still down there if you want to look at it for interior ideas. Tell that knucklehead i said hi. Velocitys are a great boat you will enjoy it over a fountain . |

Boat is in the paint booth. The colors will be blue and black when its done.
|
That boat runs real flat you don't have to trim it as much as a regular VR 1. We did a lot of bottom work to it. The 29 hydro was done by Mike at Hulls it has a lot of transom lift in it. Same prop I ran on my 390. With adding weight to the boat I would drop back to a 27 hydro. Mike has my other one at his shop. Should still run close to 80 mph.

Still in paint booth but plastic removed. Have not seen it sun light but color was matched to the interior (future interior). Much work to go...
|
Tom,
I'll definitely check out the 27 prop. I'll need it to plane fairly quickly. I'll be going out with Kenny with it when its done since I've never even been in a Velocity. I hope the interior isn't too heavy. Front seat bases are billet aluminum and the cabin will be only a V birth and seating, unless plans change. Although, I'm sure the pounds will add up. |

Stick with the Hydromotive prop. Try the 29 it was set up to run on the rev.lim. at 5600 RPM. light on fuel. If its to much witch I'm pretty sure it will be call me. It jumped on plain with the 29. put the tabs all the way down and nail it! It realy needs a 5 blade hydro.

As reference, these are some pics before it was brought to Velocity-before the wrap was removed and the interior ripped out.

I stopped by Velocity today and took some pictures. Picture quality is lacking.
The ones I get from Kenny are better quality. Next time I go, I'll take a good camera. The bow rail was put on and looks better than I thought and much better than the original all black rubber rubrail it had on before. A colored plate goes on the port side dash. |
I like the metal (SS) rubrail insert, seems more durable than the black rubber or vinyl insert.
|
I was really surprised at how much better the SS rail looks. I was talked out of being cheap and keeping the old one. I let the guys at Velocity make alot of decisions. They know way more than I do about what works and what doesn't work.
It's got a ways to go yet. Billet aluminum seat bases should be in any day now... |

new seat bottoms.....drool!
|
I'm not sure if they're the same seat bases. But they look similar if not identical. When they come in, I'll take a picture.

They are starting on the cabin. These pics show what it looks like now. Most of the extra bulkheads put in for racing will stay in place and shouldnt be in the way too much. Not that I'll need them, since this will be a "family" boat.

Stopped by Velocity today and they were starting on the cabin. Not much to look see at right now but there was a bunch of prep work to get to this point. Floor, glass work and wiring in the cabin was done in the last couple of days. Stuff that will never be seen.

When I looked into the unfinished cabin after I bought the boat, I had no idea what kind of work had to be done just to have a basic cabin. Now I know.
Seat bases came in. I'll post pics soon. |
The project is coming together very well. Are they installing a porta potty and sink with storage cabinets?

I'm from MD and threaten my family to take the boat back up there this summer. How is the boating and where do you boat? Most of my original family is up there still. |

Yes, the porta potty goes into that newly created space up front. I'm not going to use a sink in the cabin but instead install a transom shower which is very helpful with the salt water we have. I would love to have a 290 with the bigger cabin but not for now.

Last summer we took a 160-170 mile (return) trip to Solomons Island and spent the weekend there. It was 8 of us (including 4 kids) on the 290; I did the trip along with a very good friend of mine. His boat is a lot bigger and he cruises at ~60 in almost any condition. Conditions on that weekend was very good and I was cruising at 45-50; however, my buddy had to reduce speed a number times to allow me to catch up. |

We went last summer and had a blast! Both my wife and I grew up on the northern Chesapeake, and we miss the boating up there every summer. Of course boating in January down here ain't so bad either... :lolhit: Here's some pics... http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...eake-trip.html |
Summer boating is great around here. You can do Baltimore, DC, Annapolis, Alexandria, lots of smaller towns, or just anchor out in a nice cove. The 290 does well until the bay gets waves over 5 ft or so. But there are plenty of rivers to duck into then.
