LH is nice but alot of bottle neck areas and deck boat capital of the world. I have never seen so many. Magic and sleek seem to be the most for the deck boat models on the water. Also lake Powell is alot nicer and better cool factor over LH.
Will bring this up - 1000 Islands is alot nicer than LH could ever be, Just IMO. Depending when you go, LH could be a frying pizza oven as well. But for me its the same here in Texas. Freakin Fryer.

I boat on LH and yes it's a cool lake but I can't see why you'd drive form NY, that's a long trip and it's just a lake. If it was me the only reason is come out was for dessert Storm, run the lake go through the reserve to topock/ pirates cove then I'd pack it up and head to powel.
Powel is a awesome lake, it's huge, there is lots of sight seeing, destinations to visit, you can rent a house boat for a week lot two and explore the coves etc, you can tour the dam also.
Most of thet westw coast Lakes are best in spring and fall otherwise it's 110*-120*+ depending on what month you're there.
