Default Velocity Article/review

I just read the new issue of Boating Mag. There is a nice review of the Velocity 230 SC with Merc 300R. They clocked it a 77.8 mph but factory said they had run it at 82. Sharp looking boat and nice review!

The driver in that review, Jeff Hemmel, stated in the article, The 230SC hit a top speed of 77.8 mph during our testing, before the pucker factor prevented me from adding in more trim, lift and throttle. In different water conditions, and with an experienced person at the helm, particularly one with time aboard the 230, reliable sources peg that number closer to 82 mph. I buy it completely.

I saw this boat in final rigging and pics don’t do it justice. It’s bad ass.

I'm a big fan of the 230 SC. Sharp boat for sure. I'm curious when they started using composite construction as I saw a used 2004 260 for sale with pricing that seemed too good to be true. Anyone know what year they removed the wood from the trouble areas like transom and stringers?

Pretty sure that "all composite" is something new the Scott M. has implemented since taking ownership. Composite was available when Steve Stepp owned the company in 2004 but it was an expensive weight-saving option - doubtful if a 260 buyer would have paid for it.

Hi Rick! Pretty sure you are right. The VR 1 has no wood it but I understand the 260 and 290 had wood in stringers and transom.
it sounds like Scott is building good boats!

Is it bad taboo to discuss the price? I'm a huge fan of the boat, but not the price at $130K. I realize that is likely MSRP, but the markup is so high that it kind of turns off any sane person from buying a boat like this. Is there a buy direct price?
