I've just been offered a fresh pair by an Apache guy . He sent me photos that just don't look right . There's evidence of a leak and they've got blue Cal Custom 80's pinstripes which strikes me as odd . Check these photos out please .
Maybe it's just me . Too worried about getting screwed .

I'm looking at these pictures blown up and I'd swear these are IV uppers with V lowers bolted on although looking at the lowers from these photos it's hard to tell what they are exactly .

I enlarged the pictures and it is extremely difficult to tell, as they are so dark, if the upper housing is one of the latest design, #5 housings. The last design #5 upper housing was "smooth" on the side where the 6 stud holes are. The early #5 and all the #4 upper housings were "scalloped " around these stud boss's. A #5 lower case might have a V stamped in it immediately in front of the wear plate area. The true way to tell is separate the upper and lower housings and look at the front verticle shaft. A #4 and early #5's were polygon in shape. A true #5 will have a splined front verticle shaft. Also the spur gears on a #5 are 1" in thickness. Also look at the OD of the trim pin hole in the rear of the upper case. On a #5 it is 1" in comparison to a 7/8" pin for a #3 or #4 drive.
Hope this helps.
